2011 Audi Expo event recap

Text and Photos By Joshua Decker

The end of June marks a few important events in Seattle. The first of those events is the much anticipated Audi Expo which is the largest all Audi event of its kind in the northwest. The second event is the annual arrival of summer, which conveniently showed up just a few hours before the show! The weather couldn’t have been nicer and the atmosphere was set for an amazing event.

As Audi Expo celebrated its 11th year, it held its event at a new venue. Audi Expo has always been held at the Bison Creek Pizza in Burien, Washington, but the event had grown big enough to try a new venue. This year, the event took place at the Pacific Grand Prix Motorsport Park adjacent to Pacific Raceways in Kent, WA. Pacific GP is touted as the most versatile and exciting track in the NW. It is home to professional karting championship races, drift series, motocross, auto racing, and hoonage of all sorts.

Event Preview: Audi Expo 2011 takes over Pacific Grand Prix on June 25th

One of my very favorite events of the year is the annual Audi Expo show and get together that takes place every June here in the Seattle area. The Pacific Northwest is known for its strong Audi Club and above average Audi ownership numbers. So it is no surprise that our annual party is one of the largest ALL AUDI events in the entire country! Every year we have nearly 300 Audis and it is a fun event for families as well. This is the one even in the NW that you simply cannot miss!

Event Details: June 25th 2011, 5PM – 10PM at Pacific GP in Kent, Wa.

Special Note: This year the event is moving from Bison Creek in Burien to the Pacific Grand Prix racing facility adjacent to Pacific Raceways in Kent, Wa!

Come out to the largest Northwest display of privately owned new and retro Audis!

TT RS shines at coming out party in Chicago

Words by: Robert S. Schultz, Photos by author & Audi USA via flickr

For a car that isn’t officially here yet, the Audi TT RS has already acquired quite a following. In fact, it’s about 11,500 strong, the number who signed the Facebook petition to bring the car to the U.S. To show its appreciation, Audi invited the RS’s friends to an exclusive preview luncheon Feb. 10 during media days at the Chicago Auto Show.

Audi at SEMA 2010

I was extremely excited when Jeff Kuhlman, VP of Marketing at Audi USA informed us that they were going to be at the 2010 SEMA Show. Last year I came to the show for the first time as a member of the media. It was quite an experience, and no where near the amount of work and pain as it was when I ran a booth here. My goal was simple, come to SEMA and feature all the Audis and new products for Audis. However there was one major problem, there were no Audis! OK, there were 5, but they were lame. 3 of them were stock, and the only decent Audi there (Audi R8 V10) had the ugliest wheels known to man. Fast forward to this year, Audi is here and playing a major role in the show! Audis are all over and this is by far the biggest year for Audi at SEMA ever. The theme of Audi’s booth is to highlight the new levels of after sales products and services highlighting their customers ability to personalize their car. We will do our best to describe the booth cars and their features to you.

034Motorsport Audi A4 takes 2nd place in Global Tuner Grand Prix 2010

034Motorsport is in the business of making VW and Audi’s fast, the 2010 Global Tuner Grand Prix sponsored by Mobil 1 and GMG was the perfect opportunity for them to prove this.  034Motorsport has been campaigning their 2001 Audi A4 in Redline Time Attack Events throughout 2010, and the GTGP was quickly building up to be the place to really show what you’re made of.  “We started hearing about some really fast teams and cars that were going to be there, it definitely seemed to place to be, plus Laguna Seca is one of our home tracks”, said Javad Shadzi, team owner. Instead of wheel-to-wheel racing, the event was scored on single fast timed laps much like the increasingly popular Time Attack type of racing.

The event was three days, Friday and Saturday practices and final timed laps on Sunday.  To make things even more interesting, it was scheduled to rain all 3 days.  Christian Miller, team driver noted, “The rain really made things interesting – strategically it was critical to choose the right tire for the race, it also really affected the way we were testing and setting up the car, one session would be dry and the next pouring rain.  It definitely threw a curveball at the weekend”

Event Recap: 2010 APR BBQ

Photos and Text by Elaine Bak –

APR, LLC is known as the industry leader in aftermarket performance products for Audi, Volkswagen and Porsche, but it takes a visit to their facility to even begin to understand the processes, dedication and passion that go into each one of their products. The building itself is a thirty-six thousand square foot work of modern art positioned proudly on top of large hill overlooking Highway 280 West in Opelika, Alabama. The showroom is a striking introduction; a vast two-story room lined with walls of windows, industrial architecture, modern European furniture and product displays. The polished concrete floor, emblazoned with a red, white and grey APR Tuned logo, reflects the show vehicles on display. Pictures just can’t do the performance campus justice; one must see it to rightfully appreciate it.

One of the best opportunities to visit the facility is during the APR BBQ. The BBQ is open to all owners of Audis, Volkswagens and Porsches, regardless if they have already purchased performance products from APR or not. The entire APR staff is on hand, performing everything from ECU upgrades to installing APR’s performance product line on site. Guided tours are given of the facility allowing visitors a behind-the-scenes look at all stages of production, including 3D modeling, prototyping, manufacturing, testing, verification, final development and quality control. Additionally, technicians and engineers are available to answer questions, making this is a great time to get one-on-one with the people who make and install these great products.
