An interview with Audi’s Head of Design, Stefan Sielaff

We just spent two great days at the LA Auto Show with Audi. It was such a fun experience. Audi had an impressive display and showed why they are well on the way to becoming the world’s leading luxury brand. One of my highlights of the show had to be the time spent with Stefan Sielaff, the man behind many of the Audi’s we have grown to love such as the Audi A7, the Audi R8 GT, the Audi quattro Concept and of course the Le Mans winning Audi R15 TDI!

A video of this interview was captured by Audi’s media team. I was very fortunate to be a part of this interview and as an Audi fan there it was a great honor and privilege.

And here is a gallery of photos from the interview.

Day one of the LA Auto Show is going by very fast. We spent our morning at the Audi booth taking in all the sights and sounds. Audi brought some amazing cars to the show and I’ll do my best to go over each one in detail later today but for now I will post up the first batch of photos for you to enjoy!  Next up is a 30 minute interview with Stefan Sielaff, Audi’s Chief designer! Then after that we meet with Audi USA President, Johan de Nysschen.

Audi R8 V10, 2010 World Performance Car

The Audi R8 V10 was named as the 2010 World Performance Car at the World Car of the Year Awards ceremony at the New York Auto Show. This is the second time that the R8 has won the World Performance Car award: the V8-powered R8 took this award in 2008. (continue reading...)

Efficiency meets luxury – the 2012 Audi A8 Hybrid

Editor’s note: Audi is showing off the 2012 A8 Hybrid at the Geneva Auto Expo in Geneva, Switzerland. Here is a sneak peak at the A8 Hybrid which we are dubbing the perfect mating of efficiency and luxury.

The efficiency standard – the Audi A8 hybrid

Power like a big V6, fuel economy like a modest four-cylinder unit – Audi presents the A8 hybrid as a technology concept at the Geneva Motor Show. Its two propulsion units – a 2.0 TFSI and an electric motor – develop a total output of 180 kW (245 hp) of system power and 480 Nm (354.03 lb-ft) of torque. This enables the Audi A8 hybrid to accelerate in 7.6 seconds from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) and to achieve a top speed of 235 km/h (146.02 mph). Yet its average fuel consumption amounts to only 6.2 liters (37.94 US mpg) per 100 km – the CO2 equivalent is 144 grams per km (231.75 g/mile).

Whiteout! Audi at the Chicago Auto Show

Photos and Text by Robert S. Schultz

The Chicago Auto Show rolled out the white carpet for the motoring press, unfurling a blizzard on the eve of media preview days. Snowy skies cleared up quickly enough, but whiteout conditions still prevailed at the Audi display: virtually the entire model lineup clad in Ibis White. Three notable exceptions were an R8, R8 Spyder, and A5 Cabriolet painted a sun-tanned Ipanema Brown (the prettiest color you’ll never want to own).

With no premieres or major announcements scheduled at the typically low-key show, Audi gave star billing to the all-new 2011 A8. The silver example (the only other color exception) served notice to BMW and Mercedes that Audi is angling to take leadership of the executive, or D segment, as it is known. As irony would have it, at the very next stand BMW was strutting out the newest iteration of its standard bearer, the Alpina B7. Continue reading ‘Whiteout! Audi at the Chicago Auto Show’

FC Bayern stars test the new Audi A1

FC Bayern stars and national soccer players Philipp Lahm and Bastian Schweinsteiger
  • Bastian Schweinsteiger and Philipp Lahm on a secret mission
  • National players are thrilled by the design and sportiness of the A1

It was a very special kind of secret practice: The two national soccer players Bastian Schweinsteiger and Philipp Lahm had the opportunity to test the Audi A1 to their hearts’ content – strictly shielded from the outside world inside a hall at a secret location. Before them, only the members of the management board and developers of Audi had enjoyed this opportunity. So, the answer to the question of how the small, agile Audi would be received by the Bayern players was being awaited with particularly eager anticipation.

Audi e-tron concept car is highlight of NAIAS

The Detroit showcar Audi e-tron shows another variant of an electric vehicle developed by Audi

DETROIT, Mi., Jan 11, 2010  -  Audi is showing an uncompromising purist compact sports car with all-electric drive at the first major auto show of 2010. The Detroit showcar Audi e-tron is the name of this 3.93 meter (154.72 in) long and 1.78 meter (70.08 in) wide but just 1.22 meter (48.03 in) tall two-seater; just a few months after the debut of the Audi e-tron at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, this is now the second electric concept vehicle from the brand with the four rings.

Coupled with the Detroit showcar Audi e-tron’s low gross weight of around only 1,350 kilograms (2976.24 lb), high-torque power units driving the rear wheels guarantee commensurate road performance. Two electric motors with a combined output of 150 kW (204 hp) and 2,650 Nm (1954.54 lb-ft) accelerate the coupe with ASF-design aluminum body from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in just 5.9 seconds. The Audi e-tron accomplishes the sprint from 60 to 120 km/h (37.28 – 74.56 mph) in a mere 5.1 seconds. Continue reading ‘Audi e-tron concept car is highlight of NAIAS’
