AutoExpress heads to the Ascari track with Audi Factory Driver Frank Stippler and they share several details with us about the upcoming 2015 Audi R8. At launch the the 5.2L V10 engine making either 533bhp (15 HP more than the current generation) or 602bhp in the V10 Plus model will be the only option. The R8 V10 Plus sees a gain of 60 HP over the previous V10 Plus and is capable of hitting 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds, 0-124mph in 9.9 seconds and a 205mph top speed. Gone is the gated 6-speed manual transmission only the seven-speed S tronic gearbox remains which is of course paired to Audis legendary quattro all-wheel-drive. There’s also word that the Twin-Turbo 4.0L V8 TFSI from the S8/RS7/RS6 will find it’s way into the engine bay down the road.
Audi is revealing the headlights of its new R8* as the first of a number of technology highlights of the top sports car. The R8 uses LED headlights which can be supplemented by a laser high beam lighting module as an option.
Instagram user DreBoog has posted what he believes to be a leaked “insider” photo of the new R8 due to debut in Geneva next Month. The car appears to be in a quattro GmbH testing facility is missing it’s wheels and the hood is slightly ajar. We can see that rumors of the full side blade shrinking as well as the new corporate grill are true. It’s rumored that it will use the new V10 derived from the 2015 Lamborghini Huracán as well as an upgraded 4.2L V8. The R8 has also undergone further Audi ultra treatment to shed some curb weight. We will post more details as they arrive as we get closer to the Geneva debut.
Audi R8 Coupé
The R8 is the sporty spearhead of the Audi model range. The lineup comprises three different engine variants: the R8 V8, the R8 V10 and the R8 V10 plus.
Body and interior
Audi showcases the full extent of its capabilities in lightweight construction with the R8. The greatest factor with respect to weight is the body.
An aluminum Audi Space Frame (ASF), it weighs just 210 kilograms (462.97 lb). The version of the R8 V8 Coupé with the six-speed manual gearbox weighs just 1,560 kilograms (3,439.21 lb). The top-of-the-line R8 V10 plus weighs 1,570 kilograms (3,461.26 lb).

Audi today announced 2012 R8 models created exclusively for the U.S. market. Building on the award-winning R8 V8 and R8 V10 Coupes, the Exclusive Selection Editions will arrive in limited volume later this month. Only twenty 2012 Exclusive Selection Edition R8 V8 vehicles and thirty 2012 Exclusive Selection Edition R8 V10 vehicles will be produced.
Audi has made its R8 high-performance sports car even more attractive and dynamic. The R8 V10 plus is a new top model in the model series, with a totally new 7-speed S tronic. The LED headlights and the new rear indicator lights with dynamicized display are standard equipment on all variants.
Today APR released their latest work of their new in-house video team. It features APR Grand-AM R8 driver Jim Norman’s R8 V10 Spyder. Jim recently purchased the car after driving the Grand-Am R8 and sent it to Alabama to have APRs engineers work their tuning magic. The APR R8 ECU upgrade for the R8 V10 adds 59 horsepower and 53 ft-lb of torque. This allows the R8 to surpass the Gallardo Superleggera. We will let the video speak for it self.
The infamous Gumball 3000 race is going on right now across the United States. Swedish freestyle skiing sensation Jon Olssen shipped his new custom Audi R8 to New York and has been racing it across the country. Apparently he doesn’t just win on the slopes, he is in first place and in a controlling lead of the race. Rumored to have over 700 HP due to the Stasis Engineering supercharger kit, and full custom carbon body kit from PPI, it is no wonder he is leading the race.He has been posting updates to his blog and you can see the latest one here!
