- Further expansion of Audi motorsport activities in Asia
- Strong line-up with three Pro/Am pairings to race for victory
- Entries illustrate strong commitment of Audi to customer racing
Audi China is further expanding its motorsport activi- ties in Asia by supporting three entries of the famed Audi R8 LMS ultra race car in the GT Asia Series. The three entries of “Team R8 LMS ultra” will each be driven by a pairing of an experienced professional with an ambitious amateur driver (Pro/Am pairing). The GT Asia races provide the next exciting regional highlight for Audi Sport customer racing, just one week after the spectacular season opener in Zhuhai, South China, of the Audi R8 LMS Cup, the brand’s exclusive one-makes series.
“Our involvement with the GT Asia series illustrates our strong commitment to further develop private customer racing in Asia”, says Rene Koneberg, Director of Audi Sport customer racing China, “We are showing our devotion by supporting the gentlemen drivers with three professional drivers from the Audi R8 LMS Cup”. The Pro drivers for the GT Asia series are Alex Yoong from Malaysia (former Formula 1 driver), Marchy Lee from Hong Kong (2012 Audi R8 LMS Cup Champion) and leading Chinese racing driver, Franky Cheng Congfu (top single seater and former driver in the German Touring Car Masters, DTM). All three of them are competing in the 2013 Audi R8 LMS Cup as well.
Driving car number 7 in the GT Asia series (sponsored by Pauian Archiland) are Marchy Lee and Jeffrey Lee, who won the 2012 Audi R8 LMS Cup amateur competition. Car 888 is driven by Hideki Francis Onda and Alex Yoong (sponsored by Fo- cal Point & Tunewear). Car 98 (sponsored by 2001 Elance, Megabase & Cir-Q-Life) is driven by Philip Ma and Franky Cheng Congfu. All three Audi entries are run and serviced by Absolute Racing.
