Audi will be using the second FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) round at Spa-Francorchamps on May 5 as a “dress rehearsal” for the Le Mans 24 Hours as well. For the first time, two new vehicle models have to prove their viability on one of the world’s most challenging race tracks.

Audi was recently in Italy at a very rainy Monza Circuit testing The R18 ultra in preparation for it’s first International WEC race. The 6 Hours Of Spa−Francorchamps takes place on Saturday, May 5th and will be the debut race for the R18 ultra and the R18 e-tron quattro. Audi also brought along a new R8 LMS ultra to take part in the testing. The R8 LMS ultras have already taken part in a few races and have been very successful. It’s rare that we are able to the fearocious growl the R8s V10 on it’s own not surrounded by other racers.

Today we spotted the R18 ultra in the paddock at Sebring. Audi will be testing the car tomorrow along with the newly announced Audi R18 e-tron quattro. We will be attending the testing and will post more photos as soon as possible.

In 14 days we will be live from Sebring Florida for the start of the 2012 WEC.
Today, along with the announcement of the Audi R18 e-tron quattro. Audi showed off a revised R18 TDI with a new carbon-fiber composite gearbox housing – a premiere for endurance racing. Without the weight optimized R18 ultra Audi wouldn’t been capable of realizing the R18 e-tron quattro which is absolutely identical with the exception of the hybrid system.
