Audi 1-2-3-4 victory at Spa on premiere

  • Audi R18 ultra and R18 e-tron quattro strong and reliable
  • Solid debuts by Marc Gené, Marco Bonanomi and Oliver Jarvis
  • Second win of the season for Audi in World Endurance Championship WEC

Audi delivered a thrilling premiere of two new vehicle models: Romain Dumas/Loïc Duval/Marc Gené won the Spa 6 Hours, the second round of the FIA World Endurance Championship WEC, in an open battle of the vehicle concepts. Crossing the finish line behind the Audi R18 ultra of the trio were last year’s Le Mans winners Marcel Fässler/André Lotterer/Benoît Tréluyer. They had dominated the race in the early phase with the Audi R18 e-tron quattro, the first diesel hybrid sports car in history. In the end, they had to admit defeat though. The other two Audi driver teams completed the perfect 1-2-3-4 victory of the brand.

Audi R18 e-tron quattro on pole at premiere

  • Allan McNish achieves best time in first diesel hybrid prototype
  • Successful debut for Audi R18 e-tron quattro and R18 ultra
  • All four Audi cars on top four grid positions

Ingolstadt/Spa, May 4, 2012 – Premiere in endurance racing: Audi is again making technology history in motorsport, as a diesel hybrid vehicle is on the top spot of the grid of a sports car race for the first time ever. At round two of the new FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at Spa, Belgium, Audi will be starting into the race on Saturday (14:30, May 5) with four cars from the front two rows.

Double debut for Audi in Belgium

  • First WEC race for Audi R18 e-tron quattro and Audi R18 ultra
  • Three new drivers in Audi Sport Team Joest
  • Le Mans winning team to put four cars on the grid for the first time

Audi will be using the second FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) round at Spa-Francorchamps on May 5 as a “dress rehearsal” for the Le Mans 24 Hours as well. For the first time, two new vehicle models have to prove their viability on one of the world’s most challenging race tracks.

Audi tests LMP1 sports car for 2012

Editors note: The notable absence of  Porsche drivers Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas, and Audi Sport driver Mike Rockenfeller match up to the rumors that we’ve been hearing about a line-up change for Audi. We will post more once we get official word from Audi.

Audi Sport is intensively preparing for the 2012 sports prototype season. A test team has started the next trial phase of the LMP1 sports car for the 2012 season in the United States this week.
