20 years of DTM Evolution

It’s not too often that Michael Dick has the opportunity to trade his business suit for a fireproof overalls, put on the helmet and to put himself behind the wheel of a race car. This Friday is such a day. Waiting for the Board for Technical Development at AUDI AG, two vehicles, which could hardly be more different, although they are both from the DTM - that popular racing series in which Audi has just won the title for the eighth time.

The difference lies in the years between the cars.

The Audi V8 quattro won the 1990 DTM title for the company with driver Hans-Joachim Stuck. The new DTM A5, however, has it’s career ahead of it: Audi Sport developed it for the new 2012 technical regulations, which begins a new era in the DTM. The Head of Audi Sport Dr Wolfgang Ullrich, invited his boss to drive both DTM cars and compare.

The place for the test: Prüfgelände in Neustadt, where almost every new Audi race car from Audi Sport completes it’s roll-out. The Audi V8 Quattro is the Original winning car from 1990, which today is owned by Audi Tradition. The A5 DTM with the chassis number R17-103 is the vehicle shown in September at the IAA in Frankfurt where Audi celebrated it’s world premiere.
