BREAKING: Audi RS 4 Avant spotted in the USA

We have been talking about the new Audi RS 4 Avant for months now. It is such an amazing machine that lives up to the RS lineage well. The only problem for us is that it has seemed like there wasn’t much of a chance for us to see this car in the USA. That may have all changed now though with the breaking news that Audi USA has actually gone through the trouble of bringing one of these into the USA! That can only mean that they are interested and want to see customer reactions. This beautiful 2013 Audi RS4 avant was spotted this morning at a Cars & Coffee GTG near Audi’s headquarters in Herndon, Virginia. Luckily for us one of QuattroWorld’s own readers was there to capture photos for us!

On a recent press trip with Audi, I discussed this in detail with the Audi USA executive in charge of deciding what comes to the USA. He smiled at me and said that he might be bringing one over to play with. I told him, with confidence, that if they brought this car over I would do everything in my power to help sell them! I also told him that I’ve never had more people ask me about a car then the new RS 4. I’ve had dozens of QuattroWorld readers, and fans ask me about this car. There is a huge demand for it. I told him it would be a great way to reward the US customer base after they have helped set record breaking sales for almost 2 years straight.

This specific car is a german spec RS 4 Avant. It appears to be fully optioned out with the carbon ceramic brakes, etc. My favorite part is that my friends at Audi put a “You just got beat by a wagon” sticker on the back window. I love it! I need one for my B5 RS4 Avant!

My guess is that they brought this car over to see how people would react. Well, lets give them the reaction this car deserves! Please read below to see how you can help make sure this car comes to America!

Here are a few things you can do to help get this car here:

  1. Share this post with your friends
  2. Become a fan of the Bring the RS 4 Avant to the USA page and share it with your friends
  3. Post on that page stating that you WILL buy this car if it comes (I will send the link to Audi USA execs)
  4. Send a note to Audi USA tell them that you want to buy this car – and please mention that you are a QuattroWorld fan & reader!
  5. Check back here often for updates and more information!

We hope that  a strong response to these photos will be enough to encourage them to bring this car over.

Oh, and I almost forgot…

My reaction is this, “What am I going to do with the RS5 I have on order?”

  2. 2 John

What engine is in it, same as RS5 or?

  3. 3 JET

Love the sticker in the rear window. I’m in for one.

  4. 4 Josh Wyte

If they bring over the RS4 Avant with a manual transmission I’ll buy it. I was incredibly disappointed when they brought over the B7 RS4 convertible, but not the RS4 avant…

  5. 5 MarkFank

This would be the perfect replacement for my B7 RS4. I’d buy it. I’d also buy the RS3 or even the S4 avant. Dear Audi, please bring a high performance avant back to the states!

  6. 6 Chris Cring

Perfect replacement for my 05.5 S4. Audi, PLEASE BRING THIS CAR TO THE STATES

  7. 7 Jared Zezima

Would rather have it in B7 “saloon” style. My “realistic dream car” I love the RS4, World Car of the Year in 2007!!! Against Porsche Turbo 911, 911 GT3, Ferrari, and Jaguar! Represent Audi! :p

  8. 8 Andrew Maher

Please bring the RS4 Avant over to the US!!! I would definitely buy one if they were here! I always wanted a B7 RS4 avant but they didn’t make it over the pond. If you bring the RS4 over they would sell without a doubt!!! Just look at all of the wagons that are being purchased! Please bring that car over here!

  9. 9 DJ

Nice. Audi DO IT. I need to get back to the Audi brand from BMW.

  10. 10 /\/\ightar

Very cool, although I would rather have the S6 Avant or RS6 Avant. The RS4 Avant is just too small in the back. Realistic family duty is better served in mid-size models.

  11. 11 Mulsanne Motors

If this is available in the US I will buy it. 100% guaranteed.
If MB can find a way to bring the E55/E63 here and sell them at $100k+ I have no idea why Audi cant push these here…although the B7 S4 Avant had issues leaving dealer lots but even if the RS4 Avant was a limited run of 500, I think they may sell out…

  12. 12 Cartype

Do they really need to bring one over to gauge reaction and interest? Really? Bring it so sell, with a manual, and watch them sell out. I’ll be first in line.

  13. 13 Crispin G.

Been a wagon lover for quite a while (sleeper wagons are awesome). I have a S5 cab now . . . I need a manual option on a wagon, when and where do I sign up?

  14. 14 Nogaros4

Audi NA, Bring it here! I want one now.
    Love that color too.
Price it like the RS5 and done deal..

  15. 15 Tony

Thank you for taking the time to contact Audi regarding the availability of the sporty RS 4. Your passion in our products and loyalty to the brand is very exciting to read about!

Audi of America launched the unmistakable RS 5 in July of this year. The RS 5 is definitely a powerful vehicle. The engine delivers 450 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds. Not only is the vehicle commanding but it has a very stunning and sporty look. Audi hopes its customers take notice of this amazing vehicle.

As our 2013 model line-up has already been announced, there are no plans to introduce the RS 4 this year. With the success of the RS 5, future RS models could make their way to the United States within the next few years. I would love to forward your comments to the appropriate parties so that they may know how eager our customers are to see the RS 4 grace our line-up.

Nice car but too bad it’s a station wagon. I’ve never understood the facination with them; same with hatchbacks. Give me a sedan any day of the week.

  17. 17 Bryan

This is THE car Audi needs to bring back to America, and it is a pleasure to see they are considering, finally! AoA must know there are at least 500 buyers just waiting for their chance to buy an RS4 Avant. Now trim it out properly, give us the Euro-Spec seats and SW, and the 4.0T motor. Manual transmission (not DSG) would be best, but the DSG box is certainly acceptable.

  18. 18 Chris

A manual or DSG B8 RS4 saloon. I would buy it.

  19. 19 Derek (DD CA)

AoA, you’ll need a Turbo or Supercharger to meet sales goals fellas…

Otherwise, you’ll just repeat the same failure that you claimed with the B6/B7 low sales figures.

The enthusiasts of audi and the sport badge have been willing to spend, but not when there remain better options from the B5 era.

    An SQ5 with TDI… S4 avant with current V6T… S3/RS3 hatch…

Please… something with forced induction, quattro, a long roofline, and (preferred) manual transmission. Choose one. Bring it. We’ll buy it.

    DD
    Q7
    B5S4 avant
    $$$ in hand for above…

  20. 20 JEB

Awesome car. I really wish they put the 4.0T in it but it is what it is.

This car does have S-tronic and that is the only transmission you get with this car.
The problem with the US is that avants do not sell. This car, if they brought it here would be limited production and would sell out fast because of what kind of car it is. If AOA decided to release this car (Which they are working on) get on that waiting list because it will be long.

  21. 21 Tyler

    Do want.

  22. 22 Rich

Yeah, I love the exterior, but unless they up the power somehow, I’m not all that for it. I’ve got an RS4 now and I’ve got an 2013 S8 on order. If the RS4 came with a TT V8 then I would notice, but if it still is going 0-60 in 4.5-4.7 seconds, that sticker is going to look silly.

  23. 23 Van Straker

Not much makes me go “Ohhhh..!” in the automotive world any more… that just did it….

  24. 24 ssort

I’d be happy to sell our B7 RS4 and B7 S4 Avant for one of these. We’ll hold our nose as i’m sure the only tranny is a automatic but we’d still buy one. But it has to be in white.

  25. 25 James

I’ve held off buying any Audi only because there is nothing in the Avant range available in the US at the moment. While in London recently I had the opportunity to look at an RS4 Avant in the showroom, that was the point at which I made my mind up that it will be the next car I buy ! Bring the RS4 Avant to the US and I will be in line waiting to buy one ! I’d still keep my S4 Avant for daily driving, and enjoy the RS4 Avant on the weekend !

  26. 26 BK

GIMME THAT! Oh man that car is so hot.

BUT! I would say I’d MUCH rather have an RS3 four door wagon with the 2.5T!!!

  27. 27 K Casey

As the originator of “you just got beat by a Wagon”, I completely approve of its use on the car.

So happy to see it branching out. :-)

    K Casey

  28. 28 Jarrett

Easy purchase decision for me. AOA, we need this car.

  29. 29 Jack

So I’m selling my 02 6MT allroad, because it’s such a PITA and handles like shit! Bought another 95.5 S6A. Would I buy a RS4A, depends on if it came with something with some HP and 6MT.

  30. 30 TheRedBaron

I seriously hope the aforementioned exec reads this. Why did you strip the US of the ENTIRE Avant line.. I just purchased my second B7 S4 Avant.. why? Well, it’s not like I could have updated it with anything in your current lineup, can I?

I just wish we could get an official statement as to why the product range is missing the Avant.

If you bring this car here, I will buy it. The cash is here.. question is, Audi.. do you want it?

  31. 31 Mrs. Terry M. sieber

Having put in a down payment for. Q5 , if this were to come over soon, I would definitely upgrade to this. What a car!

  32. 32 Ryan K

Bring back S and RS Avants across the pond

  33. 33 james

my ionly quetsion , WHEN ?
bring it to the USA sooner than later !!
and get over this idea that wagons are not wanted in the USA, there are a lot of large people here, but there are also a lot of fit and adventurous people who want to trransport climbing gear, sailing gear, parachuting equipment, surfing gear without having to drive around in a SUV in teh cowboy position .. ie one hand on the sterring wheel !

  34. 34 Andy Bonner

…..”I’ve never had more people ask me about a car then the new RS 4″.
    I’m not surprised!

Having spent half a day driving a range of spec’d B8′s around Oulton Park race circuit, UK I guarantee YOU will not be disappointed with the B8 Avant.

Find the money, rob your piggy bank, sell the wife… and while your at it spec the car with all the bells and whistles. After all, you only live once and there are no pockets in a shroud.

    Best £80,000.00 I’ve ever spent.

  35. 35 Josh

My 07 S4 saloon with a manual transmission is a wonderful car. I have the money to buy something new, but am relatively limited in my options with Audi. I want a new car with warranty but the only thing I would really want would be a b7 RS4, or a B7 S4 Avant (I would like a B8 s4 Avant with a 6mt but it is not offered) That means that the newest audi I would want would be a 2008. You guys NEED to bring a FORCED INDUCTION RS saloon and avant over here, and watch what happens, they will SELL OUT. Just in this thread you have quite a few serious buyers. I would also Buy one, no question about it. You could even take deposits, see how many people would be willing to wait. Most if not all of the 500 or so you would import initially would be spoken for. You guys dropped the ball on the avant in the States, totally underestimated market.

  36. 36 simon templar

Count me in for one. As a current owner of a new S4 and an allroad, I could replace both of them with this one car..
Please Please Please bring it over to the USA, I’ll bring a deposit check to my local dealer today!!

  37. 37 james

please bring them to the US, i’d like to order mine and do a European delivery so i can truly enjoy the mountain roads of Europe in a Euorpean car … and then bring it back to the US

let me order my RS4 Avant !

  38. 38 Derek (WI)

OK Audi. You need to get a real Avant back here. DO I have to jump ship and get a BMW? They are bringing a 3 series with a manual option in AWD in the next year. And even a diesel motor option. Come on Audi. Do you want the wagon segment or not? If you only bring one start with an S4 Avant with S-tronic. See what happens. You need a vehicle for your enthusiasts or you are going to start to lose them. I want an Avant but my ONLY option is contantly checking the used market right now. The current allroad is boring. My B7 RS4 wants to be sold and replaced with an Avant that is worthy. It will look good next to my TTRS. Thank you.

  39. 39 Ty

I would totally trade in my B7 RS4 for this in a heartbeat!

btw Josh, I saw your B5 RS4 Avant in Redmond the other day, quite a beauty.

  40. 40 AJG

If they bring over the RS4 Avant with a manual transmission I’ll buy it. I was incredibly disappointed when they brought over the B7 RS4 convertible, but not the RS4 avant…

  41. 41 Todd

I agree with Josh, get some real Avants back to the US ! The all road just doesn’t compare to a S4 Avant or better still an RS4 Avant !

Bring some style back to the US wagon market.

  42. 42 Hwood

Would buy the RS4 Avant in a heartbeat! The US will support this car.

  43. 43 Robert

I would love for this to come to the states, although Im not sure I would buy it with the NA engine still equipped in it…..it would be a hard decision for me as i love the turbo engines. I also think the car would need to be manual. If my rs6 was manual I would have never gotten rid of it. Fantastic looking vehicle though!! It would look great to go along with my b5 s4 avant and UrQ.

  44. 44 Mulsanne Motors

    It will be here w/ s-tronic… 2014.

  45. 45 Colin

Count me as another buyer. Bring it. My baby, wife and ski gear needs it!

  46. 46 Kevin

RS4 avant gets me seriously excited but no forced induction and especially no 6 speed manual really bums me out. What’s is wrong with you Audi? At least make a manual for it.

  47. 47 MG

    My deposit is waiting!

  48. 48 Kief

Being a diehard Bimmerhead, I actually sent Audi an email expressing my serious interest in this beast! Bring it over!! Perfect replacement for my wife’s X5

  49. 49 Marc

Love, love, love it. Absolutely in the dream garage. As much as I’d love to see Audi of America import the RS4, I’d really rather see them bring back the standard A4 and A6 Avants. The Allroad is cool but please give me a plain wagon. And then some S variants.

  50. 50 Tony

The RS4? Still waiting for the TDI in the A6 (as well as Q5 and A4). The A8 TDI was supposed to be here this Fall according to the Director of Audi Product planning, but it never made it here.

Do not understand why Audi is paralyzed to make a move. Hiding behind the skirt of excuses like ‘costs to test emissions, crash worthiness and the like’ tries our patience and is intellectually dishonest. If Audi really wanted to bring the TDI over the pond sooner to reduce oil consumption, it certainly has the resources to perform any such testing some time ago.

As opposed to resting on laurels of impressively increasing sales, Audi might consider that its sales figures should be even higher, i.e. Audi is losing sales to those who would not ordinarily consider an Audi but for its engine that consumes 30-40% less fuel and offers more torque to boot.

Announcements of the RS4, A6 Avant and the bi-turbo TDI, available to ROW only serve to taunt Audi’s well read potential US market.

Sorry for the mild rant…just a bit frustrated!

    A note to AOA:
    I’m in!
I have an RS4 and an E63 Wagon. Ship this thing stateside, V8 and manual, and you have just merged my garage into one car.
Tell HQ they have to bring it here. But it has to be manual.
The least you could do is send us your leftover RS6 Avants. Just print a few more of those and I’m sure the wagon starved US market would absorb those too.
The large SUV demand wave is subsiding.

  53. 53 Marco Diez

I’ve read through all the comments and didn’t see it mentioned…did anyone notice in the video the comments that were made?

At min 2:09 there is a voice saying “It’ll be a special order”. At min 2:30 the same voice says “We’re trying to get it to start where the RS5 is” and then at min 2:34 the same voice says “This car as it stands is 105 dollars”. Has anyone caught this? Is this indeed the AoA guy spilling the beans?

  54. 54 Rc

Bring the entire audi line to the u s
And embarrass the us auto makers.
I sincerely want to buy the a6 allroad
In a biturbo diesel. I already own 3
SUVs. If you want to sell the q7 please
Bring the 4.2 tdi here to the states.

  55. 55 Mike

I am a current B7 A4 Avant driver, definitely interested in the next generations of performance wagons from Audi.

I would VERY much like an RS4 offered in the USA. However, Audi must bear in mind two important things:

    1) Many Americans still prefer big cars and assume small cars are inherently less valuable/useful/comfortable, but this is changing. You need to market your S and RS models more effectively. Please show the an RS Avant destroying clunky American “muscle cars” while hauling a large boot full of furniture. That might get their attention for at least 30 seconds.

    2) Audi must realize that it now has some market competition in the Sport Wagon segment. Sure, the Cadillac CTS wagon has significantly less power than an RS4 Avant and is uglier than sin, but a fully-optioned 320 hp AWD CTS costs only $50k and has a comprehensive dealer network in every neighborhood.

Thus, I would highly recommend that Audi first test the waters with an S4 Avant with the lovely 3.0 liter V6 with choice of manual or S-tronic transmissions. (…because I am one of the rare breed who strongly prefers a fully manual transmission. These days, it’s not only the must fun way to drive a proper sport-touring machine, it’s also the cheapest anti-theft device!) Price it head to head with the CTS and market it well!!!

Final note: not interested in Facebook whatsoever. Why did you have to post your poll there?!?!?

  56. 56 Gary

    Audi…
I’ve posted my interest for this car multiple times on FB and other sites.
Stop messing with us and bring the RS4 Avant stateside.
My TT RS needs a proper stablemate.
    Ready with my deposit.
    Manual or S-Tronic.
    Thanks for reading,
    Now bring it!

  57. 57 Chad

Love it. Want one. Can afford. Will buy. It would be my 8th Audi. C’mon Audi USA!! Bring it!

  58. 58 Jon LaFOLLETTE

As she would be the perfect replacement to my 06 B7 3.2 A4 Avant, and the only plausible A4 Avant in the line up, I have my pen poised to sign right now.
