The new Audi A4 and the new Audi S4

A bestseller has become even more attractive: Audi has updated the A4 series. New solutions for efficiency, driving dynamics and infotainment, along with an even more attractive design, attest the “Vorsprung durch Technik” achieved by the A4 Sedan, the A4 Avant, the A4 allroad quattro and the S4.

Design
The A4 is Audi’s bestseller – for 39 years now and in its eighth generation. The brand has sold ten million such models in total. The A4, with its elegance, sportiness and emotional appeal, forms the centerpiece of the Audi brand. And now the design has become even more clearly defined and striking in all models – the Sedan, the Avant, the allroad quattro and the S4.

The new look further accentuates the horizontal lines at the front end. The engine hood is more arched, the upper corners of the single frame grille are tapered, and the cross ribs and the Audi rings are highlighted three-dimensionally. The grille is painted gray, with high-gloss black on the six-cylinder models or in combination with the S line exterior package. The redesigned bumpers are striking with their angular air inlets, their revised grilles and the flat front fog lights. The A4 allroad quattro is distinguished by its grille’s horizontal chrome applications and by the round fog lights. Continue reading ‘The new Audi A4 and the new Audi S4′

Audi A7, Audi Q7 win 2012 Active Lifestyle Vehicle of the Year Awards

• The Audi A7 claims top honors in Luxury On-Road category
• The Audi Q7 tops all competitors in Family Vehicle category
• Winners judged by elite and recreational U.S. athletes

The Audi A7 and the Audi Q7 won their respective categories in the 2012 Active Lifestyle of the Year Awards, which stands as the only competition of its kind in the U.S. to combine the opinions of automotive journalists and elite athletes.

Both Audi models were among the 32 finalists for recognition in the eighth-annual ALV program. The Audi A7 won as the best Luxury On-Road vehicle, while the Audi Q7 won in the best Family vehicle category.

The competition, held this year in Chandler, Ariz., involved seven categories overall with each grouping of finalists assessed by a jury panel made up of at least 10 elite and local athletes and journalists. The juries assessed the cars in each category on overall design, engine power, fuel efficiency and cargo capability. The goal of the jurors is to reward cars best suited for the needs of a sports lifestyle, such as stowing bicycles, kayaks or golf clubs.

“While ALV is technically a car-of-the-year competition, it’s also an impromptu focus group,” explained program co-founder, Nina Russin. “Our objective is to widen the pipeline between the people who plan, design and engineer new cars and the consumers who ultimately buy and drive them. At previous programs athletes including professional football players, elite runners, swimmers and triathletes have interacted with vehicle designers and product specialists.”

Spy Photo: Audi RS5 spotted in the USA

Now we have known for some time that the 450hp Audi RS5 will be showing up here formally within the next year but we certainly haven’t seen any on US soil yet. Yesterday, an astute QuattroWorld forum member spotted this completely debadged RS5 on Interstate 65 north of Indianapolis sporting Florida dealer plates. We don’t know if this is just here for testing, or perhaps an early car for dealer training purposes. What we do know is that it is certainly a new, facelifted RS5, and the massive oval exhausts and extendable spoiler confirms it.

Grand finale for the Audi A4 DTM

  • Last race for the top seller before the model change
  • Martin Tomczyk travels to Hockenheim as new champion
  • Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline battles for team title

43 pole positions, 31 fastest race laps, 34 victories and five champion’s titles – this is the impressive track record of the Audi A4 DTM since its debut in April 2004 at Hockenheim. The venue at which AUDI AG’s top seller contested its first DTM race will now also see the final grand appearance of this successful model.

The DTM finale at the Hockenheimring from October 21 to 23 will mark the 84th and – for the time being – last racing commitment for the Audi A4 DTM in the most popular international touring car racing series. In 2012 a set of new Technical Regulations will come into effect in the DTM, which provides for the fielding of two-door coupes. The A4 DTM will be replaced by the A5 DTM that celebrated its world debut at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt in September and will be doing a “trial” lap at Hockenheim together with its future competitors directly before the start of the DTM race.

Spy Photos: Audi RS1 spotted lapping the ring

Our spy photographers have been busy today. They have sent us these shots of a completely undisguised Audi RS1 lapping the ‘Ring.  While the first generation A1 was never intended for North America we can still enjoy knowing this car exists somewhere in the World. Details are scarce as to what’s powering this RS version but we can assume it’s either the 2.5-liter turbocharged 5-cylinder engine or an even higher power version of the 220 hp 1.6T that’s powering the S1. As always we will keep you to date on any developing details.

Spy Photos: First shots of new A4 allroad captured

Take a look at the upcoming A4 avant which our spy photographers caught testing in southern Europe! We have confirmation from Audi USA that they will be bringing us back the allroad, albeit in A4 form. We are very excited for this offering as personally we are huge allroad fans. It will be based on the the faceliftA4 “B8″ chassis, and will be available with the 2.0T FSI engine that is currently offered. There are rumors of other engines being available the US market, but until we know more we can only speculate. The TDI version is not expected in this go-round, however we have confirmation that the next generation A4 (due out as a 2014 model) will definitely be heading to the US shores with diesel options.

Technical regulations

In 2012, the safety of all prototypes will be reinforced, and the equivalences between the different engines powering the LM P1 cars in the Le Mans 24 Hours, the FIA World Endurance Championship, the Le Mans Series and American Le Mans Series will be readjusted.
