#Remarkableaudi – Don Istook

We recently introduced you to Audi racing Veteran Don Istook. Don is a great friend of QuattroWorld and has been racing cars since 1977. When Don heard about the Audi TT RS he immediatly began to lust for one. Audi answered that call and provided Don with the very first TT RS in the United States. Audi asked Don if he would be available to film the car. Don arranged to get Eric Harten’s 1983 Audi quattro, Colin Cohen’s very rare Sport quattro, and his World Challenge TT race car to help in the filming at Texas Motor Speed. The below video is the culmination of all of their hard work.

Audi would love to hear your Remarkable Audi story via email at remarkable@audi.com! and share yours with us in the comment section.

QuattroWorld 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show – Johan De Nysschen interview — A4 allroad, S6, S7, S8, and Q5, A6, A8 TDI confirm for North America

QuattroWorld Founder Josh Decker interviews Johan de Nysschen President, Audi of America at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

We apologize for the quality of the audio but as you can tell from the clip the show floor is a very busy place. Here’s a quick breakdown of the video:

  • Frankfurt Motor Show is the most important automotive event for Audi in the world.
  • QuattroWorld readers questions:
    • What kind of car is Johan currently driving?
      • Johan is currently enjoying a Black A7 Prestige model fully optioned.
    • After the TT RS Facebook petition does Audi have plans to bring over anymore RS models?
      • Audi USA is in on-going talks with Ingolstadt to bring the RS 7 to North America.
  • The S4 & S5 very strong sellers in North America
  • The S6, S7 and S8 will arrive in North America next model year!
  • Upcoming North American TDI Clean Diesel models:
    • Audi Q5
    • Audi A6
    • Audi A8
  • The A4 allroad will be returning to North America next model year!
  • Audi will be providing technical support to the privateer R8 LMS teams competing in the Grand Am series
We’d like to give a shutout to our friends and supporters Craig and Luis from GuerillaVideo for all their help and support! Also to Drew from eGarage.com who actually filmed this for us.

Spied: Audi RS 4 Avant

Today QuattroWorld’s ‘Ring Spy Photographers were able to snap a nearly complete RS 4 Avant. While all of the world was focused on the Frankfurt Motor Show, engineers and test drivers for Quattro GmbH were hard at work on the Ring. With the RS signature big air intakes up front, the wider fenders and the massive oval exhaust pipes it’s clear what this car is even with the camouflage. We can also see the new grille and lights from the upcoming facelift. We expect the power to come from the same 4.2 liter high-revving V8 delivering the same 450 horsepower as found in the RS5.

Audi at Frankfurt Auto Show 2011

QuattroWorld is live at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show (IAA) and we are bringing you live footage and photos from the 1st day of the event!

The  week started off with an absolutely huge event last night which was the official VW AG group event where each company (Audi, VW, Porsche, Lamborghini, Skoda, Seat, Bugatti, Bentley, etc..) showed off their wares in dramatic fashion one by one. The highlights of this event for the Audi team was the A2 e-tron Concept, the RS5, and the A5 DTM car.

I am absolutely blown away by the amazing purpose built temporary facility that Audi AG built for the show. It is the size of a small soccer stadium and has inside of it a 500 Meter test track with cars lapping around the “Audi Ring” during the show! You can even take a test drive of the cars (usually in the passenger seat however) right here if you want to!

At 11am this morning the Audi theater was packed to capacity as they showed off some amazing new cars including the S6 Avant, S6, S7 and S8 V8 twin turbo’d powerhouses and the A2 e-tron Concept. We even ran into the Andre Lotterer and Benoit Treluyer who recognized me from Le Mans and came over to say hello. There was a really cool film shown of them racing each other in the S6, S7 and S8 around a test track. We’ll be uploading the video from the presentation here shortly so check back! Audi presents the new A5 DTM

  • World debut at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt
  • Testing of the new DTM vehicle has begun
  • Reduction of costs by up to 40 percent

On the eve of the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt Audi presented its new DTM vehicle: After the V8 quattro (1990 to 1992) and the A4 (2004 to 2011) the brand with the four rings has opted to use a two-door coupe in the most popular international touring car series for the first time.

The new Audi A5 DTM, which bears the internal project name “R17” at Audi Sport, conforms to the new Technical Regulations that will come into effect in the 2012 season. The project was premised on three key aims: the safety of the vehicles, reduction of the costs by up to 40 percent and a spectacular exterior design.

Audi unveils refreshed RS 5

The RS 5 Coupé is the star athlete of the A5 family. It offers the power and handling of a powerful sports car packaged in the body of an alluringly elegant coupe. The design has now gained several new, sharp accents, with numerous features that characterize the other A5 models also making their way to the RS 5.

The Audi RS 5 Coupé uses a high-revving, normally aspirated V8 displacing 4,163 cc. This engine is closely related to the V10 that powers the R8 high-performance sports car. The 4.2 FSI delivers 331 kW (450 hp) at 8,250 rpm, with the peak torque of 430 Nm (317.15 lb-ft) available between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm. The engine has a specific output of 108.1 hp per liter of displacement. The potent response, the eager revving and the rich, melodious sound mark the V8 as a thoroughbred racing engine.

Christian Bakkerud involved in fatal crash

We learned this morning of the passing of 26 year-old Dane Christian Bakkerud stemming from a car crash on Saturday evening in Wimbledon, UK.

His last major start came at the 2010 24 Hours of Le Mans with Privateer Team Kolles Audi racing the R10 TDI. Bakkerud had gotten his start with Audi the previous year in DTM before joining the Kolles team.

He had build up his racing career starting in Formula BMW, British Formula 3 and GP2 between 2002-2008.

He was a podium finisher in Formula BMW in Germany and the UK, and his career highlight was a British F3 win for Carlin at Mugello in 2006.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Family & Friends on this tragic occasion.

Remembrance… A tribute to 9-11

Editors note: We are very honored to bring you this first hand tribute from one of our own forum members who witnessed 9/11 first hand and is sharing his story and photos for the very first time.

Remembrance….

It is 10 years. We all know what that means. For me, it is 10 years from that morning where I had to run as fast as I could to save my life. Nobody expected the towers to collapse. And when the South tower started to come down, it came down fast. It is 10 years of the nightmares, and the flashbacks. This “anniversary” as it is referred to is different though for me. Not because we are finally seeing some progress at Ground Zero. Not because Osama Bin Laden has been killed either.  It is because I am finally able to open up and talk about that morning.

Twenty four hours later I realized how lucky I was to be alive. That did not make me happy though, as the reality of how many close friends were not alive. The one that hurt the most was the loss of my childhood friend from the age of eight. She was my best friend, my soul mate and my rock. We went through elementary, middle and high school together. She helped me make it through when my father passed on at a way too early age. And then, on that day she was taken away.
