The discussion of a US based Audi factory has been around for several years. In fact, Audi’s sister company, VW just opened a new state of the art factory in Chattanooga, Tennessee to help with increasing demands for their vehicles in the United States. However until today, the had been no confirmation of an Audi specific factory on our soil. Audi USA president, Johan de Nysschen told us at the Detroit Auto Show that they were “looking into possibilities” for a new US based plant of their own but did not confirm any plans at that time.

Timo Bernhard and Marcel Fässler achieve podium result
Fourth place for Allan McNish and Tom Kristensen
Team-internal duel makes for thrilling finish
Audi Sport Team Joest finished the round of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC) at Imola, Italy, in third and fourth place. Only three weeks after Audi’s victory at Le Mans Marcel Fässler and Timo Bernhard took third place in the #1 Audi R18 TDI at the six-hour race near Bologna. Their team-mates Allan McNish and Tom Kristensen in the diesel sports car designated as number “2” finished the fourth ILMC round on position four.
Le Mans winner Marcel Fässler, who had captured a position on the front row of the grid by taking second place in qualifying, defended his place at the beginning of the race. Allan McNish, who drove the #2 R18 TDI at the start, was running in fourth place at the beginning of the race. Both cars continually lost time due to many lapping events in heavy traffic in the field of 48 vehicles. After the first pit stops, 47 minutes into the race, the two Audi R18 TDI cars were on positions three and four.

Early race stop deprives Audi of chance for victory
Four Audi A4 DTM cars score points at “home round”
The dream of achieving victory at its “home round” on the Norisring did not come true for Audi this year either. Still, the squad around Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich had good reasons to be happy with its performance at the fifth round of the 2011 DTM season and another podium result for Martin Tomczyk (Audi Sport Team Phoenix).
Audi again came very close to clinching the long awaited victory at the Norisring. But this time the weather thwarted the plans of the brand with the four rings. After the race had already been started behind the safety car due to heavy rain it was stopped early after 64 of 82 laps because there was too much water on the track.
For the eighth year, Audi enthusiasts have made the trek to the Carlisle Import and Kit Nationals in Carlisle, PA to enjoy a fantastic weekend away and to submerge themselves in a community of enthusiasts and their cars.
This event, “Carlisle”, offers many things other shows do not. Cars from various countries, including the United Kingdom, Japan, Italy, Sweden, France, United States, and of course Germany are present. There are also vendors on site, a very nice sized swap meet for those individuals looking for new and used parts, seminars throughout the day, dyno testing, and even an auto-x course. You can also find fine examples of various kinds of kit cars.
