Ingolstadt, April 21, 2011 – Lightweight design expertise expressed visually: This is the principle under which Audi enters the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans this year. The three Audi R18 TDI cars, which join the grid for the French endurance classic on June 11/12 and which make their first public appearance over the Easter weekend at the Le Mans test day, perfectly embodies – also visually – Audi’s core expertise in lightweight technology.

We have the very first images of the Audi R18. We will post the full gallery and more information very shortly but for now, enjoy!
Audi is set to unveil an attractive technical study – the A3 e-tron concept – in Shanghai. The four-seat notchback sedan integrates the full breadth of the brand’s technological expertise – from the enhanced MMI operating system, to the high-end infotainment system, to the drivetrain. And with its two powerplants and lithium-ion batteries that store enough energy to propel the car on electric power alone for up to 54 km (34 miles), the plug-in hybrid also delivers high fuel efficiency.
The first of 333 Audi R8 GT vehicles has hit the road: A customer from the UK received the keys for his Phantom Black high-performance sports car today at the Audi Forum in Neckarsulm. The limited-edition, top-of-the-line model of the R8 family is built in a production shop at the Neckarsulm site and was sold out worldwide just a few weeks after market launch. The 560 hp R8 GT will be delivered to customers in 23 countries, primarily in Europe, the United States and Middle Eastern markets.
The R8 GT takes 3.6 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) and 10.8 seconds to reach 200 km/h (124.27 mph). This breathtaking performance is due in no small part to its systematic lightweight design. Its hand-built aluminum body featuring an Audi Space Frame (ASF) tips the scales at just 210 kilograms (463 lb). With extensive fine-tuning and the use of carbon-fiber composites (CFC), the Audi engineers were able to reduce the weight of the high-performance sports car by 100 kilograms (220 lb) versus the Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro.
The result is a curb weight of just 1,525 kilograms (3,362 lb) and an extremely sporty power-to-weight ratio of 2.72 kilograms per hp. The 5.2-liter V10 in the R8 GT now has an increased output of 412 kW (560 hp). The mid-engine sports car never loses its composure as it delivers its power to the road via quattro permanent all-wheel drive and the lightning-fast shifts of its R tronic transmission. The Audi R8 GT has a top speed of 320 km/h (198.84 mph).
The limited edition further underscores its exclusive status with visual modifications to the interior and exterior, including newly designed bumpers in CFC and bucket seats with a chassis of glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP). In Germany, the base price of the Audi R8 GT was €193,000. Average fuel consumption is 13.9 liters per 100 kilometers (16.92 US mpg).

During the CAR and DRIVER test of the 2011 Audi R8 Spyder 5.2 they where able to achieve a 0-60 time of 3.7 seconds with a roll out
Recently during their testing of the TT RS the $60,000 coupe was able to achieve a 0-60 time of 3.6 seconds with a roll out. That puts the TT RS on par with some other very expensive German machinery. We are very excited that Audi has decided to provide it’s North American buyers with such an amazing vehicle.
The TT RS should start to appear on dealers lots this summer.

Audi picked the island of Sicily in southern Italy for the official launch of the brand new 2012 Audi A6. At first I wondered why they picked such a remote location for this launch, flying media from literally all over the world in to experience their latest creation. However, looking back on the weekend I can see clearly why they chose it; The Audi A6 just seemed at home in this country, surrounded by beautiful vistas, amazing architecture and rich history.
The 2012 Audi A6 is a beautiful compilation of engineering achievements. It is without a doubt, one of the most advanced luxury sedans in the world. It has so many new and improved features that it may take me a while to go through them with you in detail, but bear with me and I know you will be happy that you did. As you may have seen with the new A8, Audi has significantly raised the bar once again and has created a notable separation between them and the likes of Mercedes, BMW, Lexus and other competitors. Audi’s marketing phrase “Never follow” seems to be a perfect nomenclature for the 2012 A6.

Audi DTM Driver Rahel Frey and the Phoenix Racing team were the feature of a news story on German TV. We are lucky to have a great english translation of this clip available. BMW’s Phil Horton made a comment that indirectly states Audi is cheapening their brand by sharing parts bins with Volkswagen. It’s been something that BMW owners have held over the heads of Audi owners for many years. Audi’s Australian director Uwe Hagen has publicly spoken out again this stating that it’s more about the buying power than the quality of the parts used. He went on to point out that Porsche is using an Audi supplied diesel engine in the Cayenne. However, the Porsche implementation and tuning is up to the Porsche engineers.
Each companies engineers use the parts in distinctive ways to provide a different identity while keeping costs at a minium. The costs of producing cars for North American is something that Audi and other German Car makers have been struggling with. Audi has even moved away from allowing customers the option of al-a-carte ordering of their vehicles options and moved to a structured packaging of: Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige for North American buyers. With the continuing growth of the Volkswagen Auto Group, their buying power may allow them to the option of providing North America with more models and options.
