The Audi Q5 hybrid quattro

The Audi Q5 hybrid quattro – The First Full Hybrid in the Premium Mid-sized Class

Power like a V6, fuel consumption like a four-cylinder TDI – after three generations of the Audi duo, the Q5 hybrid quattro is the first hybrid model from Audi with two drive systems. Its gasoline engine, a 2.0 TFSI, and its electric motor have a system output 180 kW (245 hp) and 480 Nm (354.03 lb-ft) for sporty dynamics – the mean consumption in the normal cycle (NEDC) is limited to less than 7.0 liters per 100 km (33.60 US mpg).

During the development process, Audi focused on a high share of electrically powered driving. The sportiest hybrid SUV on the market covers about three kilometers (1.86 miles) locally emission-free at a speed of 60 km/h (37.28 mph), and can drive up to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) under electric power alone. With the equally powerful and lightweight lithium-ion battery and many other solutions, the Audi Q5 hybrid quattro represents the state of the art. Continue reading ‘The Audi Q5 hybrid quattro’

Audi R15 TDI thrills fans in China, Takes 2nd place

  • Strong showing by the Le Mans winners in ILMC finale at Zhuhai
  • Controversial final phase costs Audi a possible victory
  • Second and third place for Audi Sport Team Joest

Audi Sport Team Joest thrilled the fans on its first showing in China with a fantastic season finale of the sports prototypes at Zhuhai. However, a controversial final phase deprived Audi of the victory the brand would have actually deserved.

During the entire 1000-kilometer race Tom Kristensen/Allan McNish and Dindo Capello/Romain Dumas at the wheel of the two Audi R15 TDI cars fought a fascinating duel with the two Peugeot 908 cars. One hour before the end, Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish were clearly leading the race when the only safety car period caused their advantage to shrink from over 30 to 13.5 seconds.

Audi starts from second row in the ILMC finale at Zhuhai

  • ILMC finale at Zhuhai with changeable weather
  • Conservative tire choice in qualifying
  • Audi R8 LMS shines in GTC class

The two Audi R15 TDI cars fielded by Audi Sport Team Joest will tackle the first major endurance race for sports prototypes in China from the second row of the grid. Rainfalls obstructed the work of the teams at Zhuhai on practice days and made qualifying a gamble as well.

After all three free practice sessions had taken place on a wet track the rain stopped shortly before the qualifying on Saturday afternoon. Because the track still had some damp spots Audi Sport Team Joest decided to play it safe and to initially send both cars out on intermediates. When Tom Kristensen and Dindo Capello switched to slicks rain set in again. The eight-time Le Mans winner was able to improve to grid position three despite the fact that the track was becoming increasingly slippery and missed the first row by merely 199 thousandths of a second. Dindo Capello changed to slicks one lap later and was no longer able to improve as the rain was getting heavier.

Audi at SEMA 2010

I was extremely excited when Jeff Kuhlman, VP of Marketing at Audi USA informed us that they were going to be at the 2010 SEMA Show. Last year I came to the show for the first time as a member of the media. It was quite an experience, and no where near the amount of work and pain as it was when I ran a booth here. My goal was simple, come to SEMA and feature all the Audis and new products for Audis. However there was one major problem, there were no Audis! OK, there were 5, but they were lame. 3 of them were stock, and the only decent Audi there (Audi R8 V10) had the ugliest wheels known to man. Fast forward to this year, Audi is here and playing a major role in the show! Audis are all over and this is by far the biggest year for Audi at SEMA ever. The theme of Audi’s booth is to highlight the new levels of after sales products and services highlighting their customers ability to personalize their car. We will do our best to describe the booth cars and their features to you.
