Audi DTM driver Timo Scheider wins from position 15

  • Audi A4 DTM shines in the rain at Adria
  • Markus Winkelhock makes strong showing in fourth place
  • Alexandre Prémat uninjured in roll-over

In the first wet race the DTM has seen in two years Audi racer Timo Scheider drove the “race of his life:” at the Adria International Raceway the two-time DTM Champion from Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline triumphed after having started from position 15 – the last driver to have achieved this feat in the DTM had been the former Formula 1 World Champion Mika Häkkinen, at Mugello in 2007.

But in addition to the commanding first victory of the season clinched by the two-time DTM Champion, Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfang Ullrich had another reason to be happy about at Adria: according to initial medical checks at the hospital Alexandre Prémat (Audi Sport Team Phoenix) sustained no injuries in a spectacular roll-over after body contact on the start-finish straight. “We can be proud of the safety of the DTM cars which has always been of paramount importance to us when designing the regulations,” said Dr. Ullrich. “Safety will again be the number-one priority for the next generation of the DTM cars. I hope that further medical checks will confirm that Alex has suffered no injuries.”

034Motorsport Audi A4 takes 2nd place in Global Tuner Grand Prix 2010

034Motorsport is in the business of making VW and Audi’s fast, the 2010 Global Tuner Grand Prix sponsored by Mobil 1 and GMG was the perfect opportunity for them to prove this.  034Motorsport has been campaigning their 2001 Audi A4 in Redline Time Attack Events throughout 2010, and the GTGP was quickly building up to be the place to really show what you’re made of.  “We started hearing about some really fast teams and cars that were going to be there, it definitely seemed to place to be, plus Laguna Seca is one of our home tracks”, said Javad Shadzi, team owner. Instead of wheel-to-wheel racing, the event was scored on single fast timed laps much like the increasingly popular Time Attack type of racing.

The event was three days, Friday and Saturday practices and final timed laps on Sunday.  To make things even more interesting, it was scheduled to rain all 3 days.  Christian Miller, team driver noted, “The rain really made things interesting – strategically it was critical to choose the right tire for the race, it also really affected the way we were testing and setting up the car, one session would be dry and the next pouring rain.  It definitely threw a curveball at the weekend”

Esquire Magazine names the Audi S4 as the 2010 Car of the Year

As the automobile has evolved over the past century, so has our ability to measure its talents. Somewhere someone has stuck a computerized, white-coat-verified test instrument on the vehicle of your choice, and its performance has been recorded. Speed, grip, handling, even the timbre of an engine’s howl — we can measure that stuff down to a fraction, far past the bounds of argument or sanity. And yet this misses the point. Cars are subjective, emotional things. Car awards are even more subjective. Numbers and stats are starting points, but we believe that the Esquire Car of the Year should make you feel something deep in your gut. You should lust for it and dream about it, but it shouldn’t be an impossible goal. It must be attainable for the average man. It should sit in front of your house or office without drawing attention to itself and tackle four seasons of day-to-day transportation with ease. Yet crucially, sometimes, without warning, it must make you snatch the keys off the wall, haul off to the country and just drive. We did just that, for hundreds of miles. We carved up mountain roads, slogged through traffic, blasted down interstates. And we have come to a conclusion: The Esquire Car of the Year is the 2010 Audi S4.

Event Recap: 2010 APR BBQ

Photos and Text by Elaine Bak –

APR, LLC is known as the industry leader in aftermarket performance products for Audi, Volkswagen and Porsche, but it takes a visit to their facility to even begin to understand the processes, dedication and passion that go into each one of their products. The building itself is a thirty-six thousand square foot work of modern art positioned proudly on top of large hill overlooking Highway 280 West in Opelika, Alabama. The showroom is a striking introduction; a vast two-story room lined with walls of windows, industrial architecture, modern European furniture and product displays. The polished concrete floor, emblazoned with a red, white and grey APR Tuned logo, reflects the show vehicles on display. Pictures just can’t do the performance campus justice; one must see it to rightfully appreciate it.

One of the best opportunities to visit the facility is during the APR BBQ. The BBQ is open to all owners of Audis, Volkswagens and Porsches, regardless if they have already purchased performance products from APR or not. The entire APR staff is on hand, performing everything from ECU upgrades to installing APR’s performance product line on site. Guided tours are given of the facility allowing visitors a behind-the-scenes look at all stages of production, including 3D modeling, prototyping, manufacturing, testing, verification, final development and quality control. Additionally, technicians and engineers are available to answer questions, making this is a great time to get one-on-one with the people who make and install these great products. Audi DTM: Return to the venue of the first victory

  • DTM visits Adria International Raceway on October 31
  • In 2004 Audi achieved its first victory with the A4 DTM
  • With four champion’s titles Audi has been the most successful DTM manufacturer ever since

On October 31 the DTM will visit the Adria International Raceway near the Italian lagoon city of Venice. There, in May 2004, Audi celebrated its first victory with the Audi A4 DTM. Accordingly, the Audi squad has fond memories of the round in Italy, the second-largest European market of the Audi brand outside Germany that saw the delivery of 57,204 vehicles in 2009.

Back to the starting point: On the last October weekend in 2010 Audi will return with the DTM to Adria, the venue of the first victory of the Audi A4 DTM. At Adria, on May 16, 2004, Mattias Ekström achieved the first triumph of the brand’s new race touring car with a 3.1-second lead as early as in the car’s third race. To date, 25 further single exploits complement its track record, plus the champion’s titles of Mattias Ekström (2004, 2007) and Timo Scheider (2008, 2009). Since Audi’s return to the DTM with a “factory” commitment at the beginning of the 2004 season the score has been 4:3 in the championship decisions between Audi and Mercedes-Benz. In addition, Audi is the first manufacturer to have clinched a title hat-trick in DTM history, in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Audi A3 TDI® Performs Flawlessly in First-Ever Extended Drive on RenDiesel® Synthetic Fuel

- ‘Eureka! Diesel Drives the Future’ drive raised awareness with California political leaders, consumers on 1,000-mile drive
- The journey was a crowning moment for the Audi A3 TDI as the ‘2010 Green Car of the Year®’
- Two cars on the tour averaged 40 and 43 mpg on RenDiesel

Two Audi A3 TDI models running on Rentech, Inc. (NYSE AMEX: RTK) synthetic RenDiesel® fuel flawlessly completed the 1,000-mile ‘Eureka! Diesel Drives the Future’ tour spanning the length of California.

The endurance drive, part of the ‘2010 Green Car of the Year Tour’, started in Eureka, California on Monday, October 18 with the intent of demonstrating that today’s diesel technology and advanced synthetic fuels each offer significant green advantages. Clean diesel engines can make significant contributions in the push to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption to make America less reliant on imported oil. Combining clean diesel technology with ultra-clean synthetic fuels can further reduce both greenhouse gases and tailpipe emissions.

Currently available in the market, the Audi A3 TDI provides environmental benefits by producing about 30% less greenhouse gas than a car powered by a comparable gasoline engine, with up to 50% better fuel economy.

The potential of clean-burning synthetic diesel, such as RenDiesel, to produce even less emissions, indeed points to a bright future ahead for Audi TDI technology as a viable green solution.
