Audi quattro concept revealed at Paris Auto Show

The 1980 Geneva Motor Show saw the debut of an automobile, whose name went on to become more than just a symbol for a long line of success by the manufacturer. The quattro from Audi is also the gold standard for the combination of winning motor sport qualities with the utmost in everyday practicality.

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the debut of the quattro, Audi is presenting a show car at the 2010 Paris Motor Show that moves a futuristic interpretation of this concept into the fast lane: the Audi quattro concept, a thoroughbred driving machine with 300 kW (408 hp), five-cylinder turbocharged engine, a lightweight body and – of course – the latest generation of quattro permanent all-wheel drive.

The very first glimpse of the new Col de Turini White show car awakens memories of another legendary ancestor: the 1984 Sport quattro, a 306 hp evolutionary stage of the Audi quattro Coupé with a shortened wheelbase. In fact, the Audi quattro concept also represents the systematic further development of a production coupé using high-performance technology. The foundation is provided by the powerful Audi RS 5, one of the brand’s sportiest production vehicles ever.

HERNDON, Va., Sep 28, 2010  - Audi announced U.S. manufacturer’s suggested retail prices for its all-new Audi A8 flagship luxury sedan, as well two 2011 Audi R8 V8 models coming in late 2010 and the updated Audi TT quattro Coupe and Roadster coming in early 2011.

Across its 2011 model-year U.S. lineup, Audi has lowered base prices as it introduced more efficient engine packages, left prices on some models unchanged from 2010 models or raised prices modestly.

Audi keeps the title fight open in DTM

  • Third place for Mattias Ekström at Oschersleben
  • Title decision has been postponed
  • Puncture costs Timo Scheider a possible victory

Ingolstadt/Oschersleben, September 19, 2010 – The 2010 DTM will be decided at the German finale at Hockenheim on October 17 at the earliest. After clinching third place at Oschersleben Mattias Ekström (Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline) is the only Audi driver with chances of winning the title.

Timo Scheider on the other hand, who was on the verge of achieving his third consecutive win at Oschersleben in front of a crowd of 62,000 spectators, is no longer in the race for the title. An early second pit stop put Scheider between the two Mercedes cars that had started from the front row and in front of the leader of the standings, Bruno Spengler. With record laps and a new DTM track record the reigning champion even seemed to be in a position to overtake the quickest in qualifying, Paul di Resta, but a puncture on lap 34 deprived Scheider of a possible victory.

“That was very disappointing,” said Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich. “We saw the good pace that Timo (Scheider) had. We did all the right things in terms of strategy and put him in a position from which he was able to win. But apparently it just wasn’t meant to be. Unfortunately Timo, of all drivers, was the one to get something in his tire …”

APR releases B7 RS4 supercharger kit

Editor’s Note: We have been following the progress of this kit since it was first leaked at the APR Distributor conference back in February. The details were vague initially but after talking with APR CEO Stephen Hooks I could tell that this project was different than most. Rather than showing off rapid prototype parts and hopeful performance goals, they drove a working supercharged RS4 into their showroom! I have seen this kit in person and it is the nicest supercharger kit I have seen on the market hands down. APR really has set the standard and they did not cut any corners when developing this kit. At a price of $18,999 prior to installation, it is indeed very expensive. However, those lucky enough to afford this kit will forget all about the money they spent once they experience the astounding 555HP on 93 octane pump gas which results in 0-60 times under 4 seconds! I am planning to experience this kit behind the wheel when I am with APR at Petit Le Mans in 2 weeks and will post up a full review. Full press release after the jump.

Confirmed: Audi TT RS coming to America

  • High-performance sports coupe scheduled to arrive in U.S. dealerships by the third quarter of 2011
  • ‘Bring it to the U.S.’ Facebook petition gathered 11,500+ signatures in just one month, including many likely buyers
  • The Audi TT RS will achieve 360 hp, 0-62 mph time of 4.6 seconds

HERNDON, Va., Sep 14, 2010  -  The hopes of American sports car enthusiasts will be realized. Audi announced today that it is bringing the 360-horsepower Audi TT RS coupe to the U.S. market by the third quarter of 2011.

The introduction of the Audi TT RS to the U.S. market has been under consideration for several months. To gauge consumer passion for the high-performance car, Audi launched an innovative survey on its Facebook tab. After more than 11,500 fans expressed their enthusiasm for the Audi TT RS in just one month, and the American automotive media praised its dynamics, Audi executives concluded the car’s time had come.

“With performance and agility rooted in Audi motorsports success, the TT RS is truly an emotional sports car,” explained Johan de Nysschen, President, Audi of America. “That emotion became abundantly clear as we explored interest across the country.”

Audi has not yet determined pricing for the Audi TT RS and will continue to define features and options available to U.S. consumers. Only the coupe version of the TT RS will be available in the U.S.

The Audi TT RS headed for America will share key performance attributes of the models sold in Europe and elsewhere. The car will come with the same, award-winning 2.5-liter TFSI, five-cylinder engine that generates 360 horsepower. The turbocharged engine also produces an impressive 332 lb-ft of torque. It was developed exclusively for the Audi TT RS and won International Engine of the Year honors this summer in judging for its category by 71 automotive journalists. The 2.5T engine will be paired with a six-speed manual transmission and quattro® all-wheel drive to achieve a 0-60 mph time of 4.6 seconds. The lightweight body featuring Audi Space Frame ASF® aluminum construction produces a low drag coefficient of 0.32.

Video: APR Tuned B8 S4 vs Stock B8 S4

The guys over at APR are certainly having a lot of fun with the new S4. It reminds me of what it was like in 2000 when the 2.7t powered S4 hit the streets and created a tuner frenzy. While I’ll admit the frenzy isn’t what it was with that car, APR certainly is causing a lot of talk with their continual updates regarding their 3.0T FSI tuning program. The latest sneak peak to surface from APR is a new video showing multiple pulls between an APR tuned B8 S4 and a totally stock S4. All I can say is that from the looks of the video the performance increase is quite substantial! Full video after the jump!

Audi R15 TDI on the podium at Silverstone

  • Timo Bernhard and Dindo Capello in third place
  • Early race end for Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish
  • First technical defect in more than four years

Ingolstadt/Silverstone, September 12, 2010 – Audi started into the new Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC) with a podium result. In the 1000-kilometer race at Silverstone (Great Britain) Timo Bernhard and Dindo Capello in the Audi R15 TDI occupied third place.

A differential failure on the sister car driven by Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish after just 15 of the 170 laps prevented a better result after the strong qualifying performance with grid positions one and two. In front of a crowd of 40,000 spectators McNish had taken the lead after starting from the pole position and fought a spectacular duel with the subsequent winner Anthony Davidson in the Peugeot in the early phase before the R15 TDI designated as car number “7″ started to coast on the track without drive. It was the first retirement due to a technical failure since the launch of the R15 project and the first for Audi Sport Team Joest in more than four years.

The unusual defect on the differential, which will be carefully examined in the next few days at Audi Sport in Ingolstadt, affected the race of Timo Bernhard and Dindo Capello as well. Because the team did not want to take any risks with the tire strategy with one remaining car the tires of the second R15 TDI were changed at the first refueling stop to be on the safe side. This caused Bernhard/Capello to lose contact with the leading Peugeot that was driving two stints on one set of tires from the outset.

In addition, unusually heavy understeer caused the gap to the leading Peugeot to increase to slightly more than one minute by the end of the first half of the race. In the second half Bernhard/Capello were able to keep the pace of the front runners and to even reduce the gap to about 50 seconds. However, an additional refueling stop three laps before the finish locked third place of the German-Italion duo in concrete.

Both Audi R15 TDIs on the front row at the inaugural Intercontinental Le Mans Cup race

  • Audi R15 TDI sets the pace at Silverstone
  • First event with new aerodynamics version
  • Allan McNish clinches first pole position for the R15 TDI

Ingolstadt/Silverstone, September 11, 2010 – Audi has written a small chapter of motorsport history by securing the first ever pole position in the new Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC). Both Audi R15 TDI cars will start into the 1000-kilometer race at Silverstone (Great Britain) from the front row.

At the Le Mans 24 Hours Audi triumphed in June primarily due to the reliability and efficiency of the Audi R15 TDI. At the inaugural round of the new worldwide sports car racing series at Silverstone the innovative diesel race sports car from Ingolstadt has been setting the pace so far as well: after posting fastest times in two of the three free practice sessions Allan McNish and Timo Bernhard clinched the two top grid positions in qualifying on Saturday afternoon.

Audi last started from the top grid position in a sports car race more than two years ago. For the Audi R15 TDI which has already won three races this marked the first pole position in its seventh racing commitment, for Allan McNish the first since Sebring in 2008.
