In its third year, VagKraft had grown enough to warrant a change of venue to Downsview Park. This year was supposed to be the mecca of Canadian shows, but as the show drew near, the weather report went from tolerable to glib. We drove through torrential downpours Saturday night on our way into Toronto, but we were optimistic for one of our favorite shows of the year. Waking up early to detail our cars turned out to be a fruitless effort as the rain never did stop, but never the less… we made it to the show and cleaned what we could.
But what started out as a bust turned out to actually be quite an amazing time. Regardless of the rain, the cars and spectators poured in (no pun intended) and the camaraderie was endless. Being from the states, I got to mingle with our neighbors to the north and see some amazing rides that don’t make it south of the boarder often. As the day went on the weather broke (slightly) and gave some the opportunity to clean up their cars long enough for judging for a few pictures to be snapped. As with any great show, I left with a few new friends and a ton of new ideas. If you’re within driving distance, but didn’t make it this year… put VagKraft on your calendar for 2011. Pictures after the jump!

Wuste 2010: Four Rings Racers Group Had A Bigger Boat

When you think of Las Vegas, what all encompassing visual comes to mind? Is it the towering Casinos which junk bonds built? Is it the sign at the end of the strip that says “Welcome to Las Vegas”? Maybe it’s that Elvis impersonator who also happens to be presiding over a drive-through wedding. For me it’s none of these. No bright lights, no gambling, no world class shows. For some reason or another, the image conjured in my mind is the poster for that classic Spielberg movie (yep you guessed it)……..Jaws. What more perfect metaphor for what Vegas is? The invisible menacing force you cannot see, but are attracted to despite the risk.
We all know, when in Vegas, one runs the risk of many things. Yet when traveling to Vegas for an event like Wuste, risk lies not only in the destination but the journey as well. For FRRG no matter the grueling nature of driving in a caravan of 20 cars for hours on end with the many variables that could come into play, we relish the idea of taking on the long and undulating roads. Roads that lead us from the foggy SF Bay, through the snow tipped granite peaks of the Sierras, past the lush serenity of Mono Lake, down into the heat and desolation of Death Valley, and like children running into the warm waters of Amity Island, finally into the ferocious mouth of Las Vegas. It’s beautiful, it’s adventurous, and it’s also surreal at times.

- Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline scores points with all five cars
- Timo Scheider on the podium for the first time this year
- Mattias Ekström reduces gap in the standings
Ingolstadt/Zandvoort, August 22, 2010 – Audi has made up ground to the leader of the standings at the DTM race at Zandvoort like the brand had been hoping to do. Still, the sixth round of the season did not go according to expectations for the title defenders.
Similar to the race at the Nürburgring two weeks ago, the first few meters were crucial again. The quickest in qualifying, Timo Scheider, stalled the engine of his Audi A4 DTM and dropped to tenth place. With a bold recovery and a good strategy the reigning champion then pushed forward again to third place. However, the distance to Gary Paffett and Paul Di Resta at the front of the field had become too large by that time.
“I’ll clearly take responsibility for the mistake at the start,” said the Audi driver, who was obviously upset about the incident. “The first response was good. But then there was too much grip which is why I stalled the engine. At least I managed to clinch my first podium in the end. Still, I’m really angry because the car was perfect.”

Adding more salt to the “we aren’t going to see the A1 in North America” wounds, some really clean spy shots have surfaced of the S1 version of the A1. Why can’t they make this thing ugly and unattractive? Well maybe because it is an Audi and that’s just not possible. As Autoblog described this definitely has the “forbidden fruit” thing going on and I would love to see this car available in the USA. I personally spend over 2 hours a day in Seattle traffic and would love a sexy, commuter sized Audi to kick around town in. I saw several A1s in person and they are definitely taking Europe by storm. They are one of the best selling cars Audi is offering for good reason.

- Two-car Audi R8 LMS entry planned for full British GT and FIA GT3 European Championship campaigns next season
- Prestigious European twice-around-the-clock races at Nürburgring and Spa also on provisional schedule for Audi “official” customer team
United Autosports has ambitious plans for its second season by expanding its current Audi “official” customer program in 2011.
In addition to the FIA GT3 European Championship which the American-owned team has focused upon in its first year of competition, the Leeds (England) based team intends to enter a brace of Audi R8 LMS GT3 sports cars in the British GT Championship.
The team also plans to contest two “classic” endurance 24 Hour races, at the Nürburgring (Germany) and Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), United Autosports placing third and fourth in GT3 in its maiden 24 hour race at Spa earlier this month.

Just this week I had my first ride in the back of a new Audi A8. It was not an A8 L but still was an amazing car nonetheless. I was astounded by the overall quality that the experience provides each passenger. The high level of comfort and quietness are simply unmatched when compared to any car I have ridden in before. The A8 L takes this experience to an entirely new level and raises the bar substantially. To get an idea of what I’m talking about, check out this new video that has been just released on youtube by Audi.tv.
