Audi sets its sights on next Nürburgring win

  • Past five years have seen three Audi victories in the “Eifel”
  • Audi A4 DTM has been on pole at Nürburgring three consecutive time
  • Home round for Audi Sport Team Phoenix

Ingolstadt, July 30, 2010 – After a four-week summer break the battle for points in the DTM, the most popular international touring car series, will finally resume at the Nürburgring from August 6 to 8. Clearly, the car to be beaten in the Eifel is the Audi A4 DTM.

Each of the three most recent events held on the 3.629-kilometer short-version of the Nürburgring saw an Audi A4 DTM start from the pole position. Three victories in the past five years speak a clear language as well. Particularly impressive was last year’s performance when Audi celebrated a commanding one-two-three-four win and significantly outdistanced its rivals from Stuttgart.

The squad around Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich now aims to continue this outstanding exploit. “I’m sure that we’ve got several irons in the fire to have some say in the battle for victory at the Nürburgring again this year,” assures Dr. Ullrich. “Our goal is to make up ground in the standings with a strong performance by the whole team.”

Aesthetic and athletic – the Audi A7 Sportback

Today we joined thousands of spectators from around the world as Audi launched their all new Audi A7 Sportback live from the ‘Pinakothek der Moderne’ art museum in Munich. It was quite a spectacle and featured many guest speakers. The A7 is meant to fill the current gap between the Audi A6 and the Audi A8. The new sportback styling is similar to that of the Porsche Panamera and other “5 door” models from other manufacturers. The styling cues of the new A7 are on the cutting edge of the Audi stylesheet and portrays a very natural progression of the Audi brand. The best news yet is that this car is confirmed to be coming to North America! We will post more updates as we receive them.

Update: We have just uploaded a massive high-res image gallery of the all new Audi A7! Check it out the pictures at the bottom of the page – after the jump.

- The first open-top Audi supercar will begin at $161,000 MSRP
- The V10 Audi R8 Spyder achieves 525-hp and a top speed of 195 mph
- Planned arrival for the RS5 Coupe in the U.S. market is 2012

HERNDON, Va., Jul 23, 2010  -  Audi today announced that pricing for the new 2011 R8 Spyder 5.2 quattro® supercar will begin at $161,000 with the first of the hand-assembled models reaching U.S. showrooms as soon as next month.

Audi also confirmed today that it intends to sell the Audi RS5 in the U.S. market starting in 2012. The high-revving 4.2-liter V8 engine in the Audi RS5 Coupe generates 450 horsepower. Like all Audi RS models sold in Europe and other markets, the RS5 Coupe applies its power to the road with quattro permanent all-wheel drive. Details on equipment levels, pricing and fuel economy standards will be released at a later date.

Anticipation has been building for the arrival of the first Audi open-top supercar since it appeared as the car of choice for main character Tony Stark in the blockbuster action film Iron Man 2. The newest Audi R8 maintains the perfect balance of form and function that has distinguished coupe models in the R8 sports car family. But the R8 Spyder adds innovative touches that integrate the soft top without altering the dynamic styling lines, optimal weight distribution or high-performance characteristics of the coupe models.

Artist builds 3D Audi R8 out of paper

Ever wanted your own R8 but could not afford the purchase price? Well this one has quite a bit less horsepower but it is impressive nonetheless. A local Seattle employee on the Forza 3 team at Turn10 studios decided to put his papercrafting skills to the test and create a 1/6 scale papercraft Audi R8 in Forza 3 livery. I am not sure how long this actually took, but you can follow along in this film as the artist Taras Lesko completes this masterpiece with the time lapse camera rolling! Enjoy the video after the jump!

Happy 101st Birthday to Audi!

On July 16, 1909, August Horch brought the Audi brand to life. Since then Audi has continued to be a progressive company pushing the limits of design and technology. We look forward to the future as Audi continues to lead the industry with their motto of “Vorsprung Durch Technik”. They have showed their willingness to step ahead of the pack with monumental commitments to future technology like their e-Tron platform and TDI. They have pushed TDI technology and have created a new “clean diesel” family of cars that help keep our planet clean and reduce dependency on oil. And all this time they have continued to dominate the motorsport scene in LMS and DTM. We wish you happy birthday Audi and are excited for what the future holds!

Question to you readers: What do you think the most important objectives and new technologies for Audi to persue? What new technologies are you most interested in seeing in your garage? Please answer in the comments below!
