Allan McNish raceday blog video

It is not often you can get behind the scenes with a Le Mans champion like Allan McNish and his compadres from Team Joest. McNish, armed with a handheld camera, journals his weekend at the Spa 1000km race. This is an entertaining look behind the scenes and give you an idea what it would be like to be a professional driver behind the wheel of an R15. Now we just need to send him a camera that isn’t blurry! And what was Dindo Capello doing to prep for the race and settle his nerves? You’ll be shocked when you see!!

Audi-Tron – First annual ACNA Western Regional event

Audi R8 V10 Spyder will be one of many special guests at Audi-Tron

What: First Annual ACNA Western Regional’s Performance Driving, Safety Seminar and Eco Driving Challenge
When: Memorial Day Weekend, May 29th & 30th 2010.
Where: Thunderhill Raceway Park, Willows, CA

With every annual event comes an inaugural event and this might just be one for the record books. The Golden Gate Chapter of the Audi Club of North America, in conjunction with our friends from the NorthWest, SoCal, Arizona, and Utah ACNA chapters, as well as Audi of America, have put together one heck of an event.

You won’t want to miss out on this opportunity for two days of fun on the track at Thunderhill Raceway. In addition to the usual two day high performance driving event featuring a ton of track time, several other exciting activities have been planned over the weekend starting Friday evening.

How does having the opportunity to be one of the first in the nation to see the new Audi’s new R8 V10 Spyder and Audi A8L sound? They will both be there, as will representatives of Audi of America to answer any questions you might have. Instead of just seeing it on the big screen in Iron Man 2, you’ll have an opportunity to check it out live and in person. They might even have a few surprises planned for the cars as well.

While safety is the backbone of any ACNA event, for the first time this will be combined with an Eco driving skills training and challenge (TDI vs Hybrid) on both Saturday and Sunday. Can you be a gas miser as well as a track junkie? Think mpg instead of mph.

The fun will kick off Friday night with a BBQ, track walk and more. Camping at the track will also be available for the first time at an Audi event. This will be a great chance for everyone from all the different ACNA chapters to put faces to those online screen names.

As with all ACGG events, lunch will be provided for participants each day, event memorabilia will be included with registration and there will be a spectacular banquet Saturday evening replete with a raffle and silent auction where you can bid on a whole host of items provided by our event sponsors. The event will wrap on Sunday with a full day on the track, leaving your Memorial Day Monday open to fire up the BBQ. Can you think of a better way to start off the summer. I know I can’t.

Audi R15 TDI finishes 3rd in turbulent race at Spa-Francorchamps

It is not often that a team would be dissapointed with a podium finish, but the members of Team Joest are left wondering what might have been had the race not been cut short by a power outage and effected by wild weather. The Le Mans dress rehearsal at Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) was quite turbulent indeed. The traditional 1000-kilometer race had to be suspended for almost 40 minutes just before half-distance due to a power outage. In addition, rain showers made conditions extremely difficult and caused numerous incidents. Dindo Capello, Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish led in their Audi R15 TDI for many laps, but had to settle for third place following an unlucky tire call during the closing stages.
