- A week of diverse fitness and team training in Ofterschwang
- Main focus on team spirit and physical exercises
- Impressive performance by Tom Kristensen
Head of Audi-Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich had every reason to be pleased with the excellent team spirit, physical fitness and strong motivation his drivers displayed at the annual winter camp held during the last week of February. Even the four drivers who experienced the team training in Bavaria’s “Oberallgäu” region for the first time perfectly blended in with the team. More exciting news has just been given to us by our friends at APR. They just announced that the Heffner Performance Twin Turbo R8 is now tuned by APR. Our sources tell us that the kit will produce 500 Wheel Horspower on pump gas running at 6psi! It will feature their patented program switching capability, boost setting and several octane modes will be available.
More details to come shortly!

APR is holding their annual distributors conference right now at their headquarters in Opelika, Alabama. Hundreds of visitors from all their top dealers and distributors from around the world are there checking out the latest and greatest new products from APR. Every year there is usually a “big announcement” where they unveil their big surprise for the year.
We have just received word from our friends at APR that they have just announced the upcoming release a supercharger kit for the 4.2 FSI V8! It will first be available for the RS4 then soon after it will be released for the S5, R8 and Q7. We assume it will eventually be available for the RS5 as well if it hits our shores. This kit features a Harrop HTV1320 supercharger with a water to air intercooler. This is not just vapor-ware – APR employees actually drove an RS4 into their showroom with a complete off the shelf kit installed! Horsepower and Torque figures are not available for the public yet, but I am sure that we can expect a sizable performance gain at a reasonable price.
UPDATE: Availability expected to be in late May. Other 4.2 FSI V8 powered cars will follow soon after RS4 kits start shipping!

Almost 30 years after advertising doyen Sir John Hegarty spotted the line “Vorsprung durch Technik” at an Audi factory and made it a globally recognized ad slogan, the car manufacturer has won a long legal battle to take full control of it as a trademark.
Hegarty spotted the slogan in 1982, the year he co-founded ad agency BBH, on a visit to Germany to establish how to sell Audi’s cars to UK drivers.
Despite skepticism that using a German slogan that roughly translates as “advancement through technology” would work, Hegarty went with his gut feeling and the strapline is now one of the most famous and long-running in advertising. The 2010 USAudiClub Winter Driving Event was held on January 30th-31st at the Bridgestone Winter Driving School in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. This is a must do event for any Audi owning track junkie. The ice tracks are amazing and car control can be challenging with elevation changes, banked and off camber turns. Staying ahead of your counter-steer and managing your car on the traction limited course is something that never gets old. Excellent instructors and a core group that has been coming to the Bridgestone complex for 17 years made for an entertaining event both on and off the ice. The USAudiClub put on an excellent event and we had many hours on the ice driving for both days. Audis both new and old shod their dedicated snow tires to carve the ice quattro style. Stay tuned for more information on more upcoming USAudiClub events including events at Mid Ohio and the High Plains Raceway this summer. Pics and Video after the jump!

Audi revealed the sexy R8 Spyder at the Frankfurt Auto Show last year. It was only advertised and show with the 5.2 liter V10 powerplant and Audi wouldn’t answer when asked about a V8 version. We assumed this meant that they were not going to offer it but one could only hope since it would likely cost around $30k less.
The guys over at Edmunds Inside Line blog have posted some exciting confirmation that Audi is indeed going to bring this beauty out in a V8 form. It is safe to assume that this will be the same 450HP derivative of the 4.2 FSI that is coming in the RS5. Don’t get too excited though as we don’t know how soon it will happen. Just like the V8 coupe, the V8 Spyder (officially the R8 Spyder 4.2 FSI) will be offered with two transmission choices, either the R tronic (automatic manual) or the 6-speed manual.
Exact timing hasn’t been set according to Audi, but the V8 Spyder should make it to showrooms early in 2011, at the latest. The V10 Spyder hits the market this fall.

- Coupé with 331 kW (450 PS) high-revving V8 engine
- RS 5 also efficient – 10.8 liters per 100 km (21.78 US mpg)
- Newly-developed center differential for quattro drivetrain
INGOLSTADT, Germany, Feb 22, 2010 – Please note, there is no information regarding U.S. availability of the RS 5 at this time.
Unbridled power lurking in a classically elegant coupé: the Audi RS 5 will debut at the Geneva Auto Show. The high-revving 4.2-liter V8 with its 331 kW (450 hp) unleashes powerful performance while achieving remarkable fuel economy. The seven-speed S tronic and an innovative center differential in the quattro drivetrain transmit power to all four wheels.
Developed by quattro GmbH, the RS models comprise the dynamic spearhead of Audi‘s model range. The RS 5 is the latest torchbearer in a tradition dating back over 15 years to the RS 2 Avant: superior handling in the mid-size class.

In case you were hiding under a rock last week and missed our post about the RS5 brochure being leaked, we have some more information for you to drool over. The speculation was that the RS5 would be powered by a normally aspirated FSI V8 but the details were still a bit sketchy. This picture of the engine bay should put all remaining questions to rest. I know many were hoping for a forced induction engine but this is a well proven power plant with tons of power and fits in very competitively against the likes of the 414HP 2010 M3 coupe.
