“Best Cars of 2010″: Wins for three Audi models

R8 Spyder
  • Audi with outstanding success yet again in readers’ poll
  • Audi A4, R8 Spyder and Q5 top their categories
  • Audi A3, A6 and R8 Coupé all with second places

Audi has continued its success story in the “Best Cars of 2010” readers’ poll conducted by the magazine “auto motor und sport” (ams). Readers voted three Audi models – the Audi A4, R8 Spyder and Audi Q5 – into first place in their categories. Second places for the Audi A3, A6 and R8 Coupé rounded out the outstanding result.

The three first-place finishes once again made Audi one of the most successful brands in the readers’ poll. The Audi R8 Spyder finished top of the category “Convertibles” this year at the first time of asking. Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG, took receipt of the award in the “Alte Reithalle” in Stuttgart. In the “Off-road vehicles” category, the Audi Q5 left its competitors trailing. The award was accepted by Michael Dick, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at AUDI AG.

And in the “Midsize class” category, the Audi A4 was the undisputed number one for the third successive occasion. Peter Schwarzenbauer, Member of the Board of Management for Marketing and Sales at AUDI AG, received this award on the company’s behalf in Stuttgart.

These impressive results were rounded out by the three second-place finishes. Readers of ams voted the Audi A3 into second place in the “Lower midsize class” category, a feat emulated by the Audi A6 in the “Upper midsize class” and the Audi R8 Coupé in the “Sports car” categories.

This was the 34th time that the magazine “auto motor und sport” had conducted this poll, with almost 100,000 readers casting their votes for 326 models in 10 different categories.

FC Bayern stars and national soccer players Philipp Lahm and Bastian Schweinsteiger
  • Bastian Schweinsteiger and Philipp Lahm on a secret mission
  • National players are thrilled by the design and sportiness of the A1

It was a very special kind of secret practice: The two national soccer players Bastian Schweinsteiger and Philipp Lahm had the opportunity to test the Audi A1 to their hearts’ content – strictly shielded from the outside world inside a hall at a secret location. Before them, only the members of the management board and developers of Audi had enjoyed this opportunity. So, the answer to the question of how the small, agile Audi would be received by the Bayern players was being awaited with particularly eager anticipation.

Truth in Motion: Movie to premier January 30th on NBC

Truth in Motion: The U.S. Ski Team’s Road to Vancouver chronicles the road to becoming a world-class skier. The day-to-day triumphs and tribulations are documented in an up close and personal way rarely seen. Ultimately, it’s a story about individuals, driven by personal motives, propelled by individual talents and challenged in ways that are uniquely human.

Truth in Motion: The U.S. Ski Team’s Road to Vancouver will air on January 30, 2010 at 8:00pm EST on NBC. Mark your calendar and set your DVRs!

Editor’s Note: I was lucky enough to preview this film in its entirety today. Director Brett Morgen did an outstanding job chronicling the long and challenging road as the U.S. Ski Team prepares for Vancouver. Also, in the post premier interview we learned some cool facts about a few of the Ski Team members. Top Women’s U.S. Ski Team racer, Sarah Schleper and her husband own a 1983 UrQuattro, which she admitted to sneaking out and getting it sideways. The favorite for the Gold in GS, Ted Ligety also drives an Audi. He has a Q7 in Park City and has an A6 that he keeps in Europe. He even admitted to borrowing an R8 from Audi and taking it to the track! Very cool indeed.
