Audi boss Stadler: “We aim to achieve further growth in 2010”

  • 2010: Eight new models
  • Large-scale investments for the future
  • 2009: Sales figures higher than expected despite the crisis
  • 2009: Significantly positive results in all four quarters

Audi is making a lively start to 2010. The brand will launch eight new models in the course of the next twelve months. And Audi is also keeping its foot on the gas pedal in terms of investments. “Although the effects of the global economic crisis will still be noticeable in the next twelve months, we aim to achieve further growth in 2010,” says Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG. In this respect, Audi has a solid basis to work from: The company’s original objective for 2009 was to sell 900,000 cars, and in November it raised this target to 925,000. Moreover, the company achieved significant operating profits in all four quarters of 2009. (continue reading…)

Audi R8 V10 = Snow Plow?

While most elite super car owners hide their beauties away for the winter, the owner of this R8 V10 threw some fatty snow tires on his car and shows off it’s all weather talents. He not only plows out his driveway but runs some very important errands during post blizzard conditions. I’d like to see a Ferrari do this! Check out the video below.

Brief Encounter: A5 2.0 Six-Speed Manual – Is Less More?

09A532FSISline_01_hr

Written by Robert S. Schultz

Audi seems intent on exasperating the stick-shift die-hards among us who have yet to evolve to the higher plane of auto-manual transmissions. Unlike BMW, which offers parallel choices of manual, automatic or sequential trannies in many of its cars, Audi does the choosing for us more often than not in the United States. Want a TT? Then you better want—or at least accept—the S tronic because that’s the only way it comes in ‘010. How about an A5 V6? You’re limited to the Tiptronic as Audi has discontinued the V6 six-speed manual.

So what’s an enthusiast to do who lusts after an A5, insists on a manual, but can’t ante up for the S5? For 2010, Audi giveth, and Audi taketh away. Gone is the aforementioned 3.2 manual, replaced by the 211-hp version of VW-Audi’s ubiquitous 2.0. If you want a manual transmission in your new A5, the 2.0 is your only choice.

The 2.0 has won nearly universal praise in all of its iterations. And four-cylinder engines are enjoying newfound street cred these days thanks to the recession and impending fuel efficiency requirements. Still, for a car that so deftly straddles the luxury, performance and sporty classes, does a four cylinder seem a little down market? Or, as some early buyers of A5s have lamented, will the lesser-cost 2.0 make the A5 all too common?

We determined to find out if an enthusiast can find shifting bliss with an A5 2.0 manual, and whether it relegates the A5 to “entry-level” status. Not surprising, finding one at an Audi dealer took time, so the first test drive was a 2.0 Tiptronic with the optional sport suspension. At the very least, it would provide an interesting basis for comparison.

Audi opts for new prototype racing series

* Two Audi R15 TDI cars in the new “Le Mans Intercontinental Cup”
* Three prototypes in the 2010 Le Mans 24 Hours
* Clear commitment to the DTM – customer sport with the Audi R8 LMS

Ingolstadt, December 8, 2009 – In 2010, the DTM, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the customer sport program with the Audi R8 LMS will again be the three cornerstones of AUDI AG’s motorsport commitment. By participating in the inaugural “Le Mans Intercontinental Cup” Audi has opted for a new, forward-thinking racing series in which alternative drive concepts will be used.

“In 2009, the Audi brand has been celebrating its 100th anniversary and our motorsport squad presented the brand with a particularly nice birthday gift, the successful title defense in the DTM,” says Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Management Board of AUDI AG. “Audi Sport has been a guarantor of successes in motorsport for as many as 30 years now – successes which are of major importance to the development of the Audi brand.”

LOL of the Day: Audi vs BMW = Quattro FTW!

quattro-ftw

We all know how amazing Quattro is. Well this picture just proves it in a pretty simple way! Someone apparently has both a BMW and an Audi and tried to get both cars into their garage after a light dusting of snow. Well you can see who won the race into the garage! This would have been great to get on video. It’s no surprise really but still good for a laugh! Thanks to Zerin @ SpeedSportLife.com for the tip.
