APR Posts Dyno Results For Stock 2010 S4

30tfsi_long_quattro_6mt_93_stock_wheel_uncorrected_all_vs_sae_all1

Our friends at APR confirmed the suspicions of many today by posting up the dyno results from their stock 2010 S4. The common feeling on the street is that these cars have felt substantially more powerful than advertised by Audi. APRs Dynapack dynometer puts the new Audi S4 at a stunning 330.67 AWHP and 336.09 AWTQ (after SAE correction). These numbers are at the wheels, not crank (which is what is used to advertise). This is the average of 6 different pulls not just the peak numbers achieved.

APR Motorsport announces plans to campaign a pair of new Audi S4s in the 2010 KONI Challenge GS Class.

apr101

October 24, 2009 – Opelika, Alabama – In one of the most exciting Audi-related announcements to hit the North American racing scene in recent years, APR Motorsport has revealed their plans to campaign a pair of 2010 Audi S4s in the Grand Am – KONI Challenge GS class!

Building off of an amazing 2009 season with their 2009 VW GTIs, APR continues their momentum by stepping into the GS class. They will campaign the S4s alongside a pair of 2010 Mk6 GTIs which will continue where they left off in the Koni Challenge ST class.

In 2009, APR Motorsports showed the racing community that they have the ability to campaign a premier level racing program. Their efforts in the Koni Challenge ST class gained momentum throughout the season and finished as arguably the strongest team in their class. They finished with more wins and more laps led than any other team.

APR Motorsport simultaneously announced their intentions to upgrade and continue their VW Gti efforts to the newest generation MK6 chassis as found in the 2010 model. APR Motorsport seems to have their hands full but as those who attended the announcement at this Saturday’s Annual Customer Appreciation BBQ held at APR HQ in Auburn, AL can attest, APR has plenty of talent, experience, equipment and engineering prowess to gallantly field both efforts. APR Motorsport Principle and APR, LLC President Stephen Hooks commented, “The accomplishments of the race engineers and the Software, Electrical and Mechanical engineering teams at APR have at times been simply amazing in their success and opportunity for continual break through from cooperation.”

QuattroWorld.com is proud to announce that it is a premier sponsor of APR Motorsport’s Audi program and will function as an official media partner throughout the season. We will provide the most up to date team news and information, as well as full coverage of every race. Coverage will include behind the scenes access, in depth driver interviews and full race photography.

Audi announces new factory for Audi A3

09a3_03_hr__mid1
  • More than €100 million to be invested in facility and infrastructure
  • Extensive expansion in northern sector of Ingolstadt site
  • Board Member for Production Frank Dreves: “Investment in tomorrow”
INGOLSTADT, Germany, Oct 19, 2009 - In recognition of Audi’s 100th birthday, the company with the four rings will once again invest considerably in its future. Earthwork operations for a key construction project in the northern sector of Audi’s Ingolstadt site will begin in late October. More than €100 million will be invested in a new body-manufacturing shop for the Audi A3.

The modern facilities for the manufacturing of Audi A3 bodies will encompass some 40,000 square meters (430,556.42 square feet). Board Member for Production Frank Dreves: “The Audi A3 is one of the most coveted models in Audi’s portfolio of products. The new body-manufacturing shop will pave the way for the continued success of this model.”

Peter Mosch, Chairman of the General Works Council at AUDI AG, believes that the wide-ranging construction project sends a clear signal to staff: “The new body-manufacturing shop constitutes a long-term investment in the Ingolstadt production site and will provide excellent prospects for lasting job security.”

Over two million units of the Audi A3 have been produced at the Ingolstadt plant since 1996. In other words, this model line is one of the greatest success stories in the history of Audi.

Breaking News: Audi kills off the RS4

07rs4_05_hr__mid
Audi has confirmed that it has officially ceased plans for a future replacement for the Audi RS4 sports sedan. When we saw this news on the web we said that it isn’t true and we contacted our source from Ingolstadt to tell us something that could dismiss those reports… Unfortunately there were true… Audi killed the plans for a RS4 successor due to poor sales. And this is not the only bad news: the German manufacturer also dropped the A4 and S4 convertible… It appears that these moves came because Audi wants to focus on hybrids and environmentally friendly vehicles. So, of you want a sports sedan, you will have to choose the 2010 Audi S4! Source: 4wheelsNews.com

Editor’s Note: This isn’t too surprising as the RS5 is redundant with the RS4 (segment wise). No one has ever expected them to have both in the lineup at the same time. I fully anticipate them to bring back the RS4 at some point. And yes, it is no surprise that they canceled the A4/S4 cabriolets as the A5/S5 are pretty much the same thing with different badges :)

RS5 test mule spotted in the wild

AutoJunk.NL has once again uncovered an Audi test mule, this time believed to be the much anticipated RS5! Rumors of this car have been rampant but we finally have some pictures to back up the talk. It appears to be sporting significantly wider fenders front and rear, along with the lower and more aggressive front bumper and grills. Check out the rest of the pictures over at AutoJunk.NL!

Holy S! We get behind the wheel of the new 2010 Audi S4.

The 2010 Audi S4 was formally released in August and reports of them surfacing at local dealerships soon followed. My curiosity was finally piqued enough to the point that I called my good friends at University Audi in Seattle, WA and asked for a test drive. To my delight they had one ready for me a few days later.

The car they had for me was a fully loaded Deep Sea Blue S4 with all the options. It is powered by the 3.0 liter supercharged six-cylinder FSI direct injection engine which features four valves per cylinder and a dual stage variable intake manifold. This car had several non-standard features including the S Tronic 7 speed transmission, Prestige trim package, Audi Drive Select package, Driver Assist, and the upgraded Sport Rear Differential. Price tag on this baby came in around $58,500.

To be brutally honest, I was somewhat disappointed in the car when I found out that it had the S Tronic “DSG” transmission. I assumed it would be ho-hum and boring like the tiptronic of yesteryear. I had driven the DSG in the TT, but the lack of power in that car left much to be desired. However, I wasn’t going to complain; after all, they were handing me the keys to a fully loaded, brand new car and I was looking forward to experiencing the new supercharged 3 liter engine.

My thoughts of disappointment in the “auto” transmission immediately vanished as soon as I accelerated onto the freeway. In fact, I will go as far as saying that it completely caught me off guard and actually shocked me to the point of laughing out loud!

The acceleration of the DSG transmission was so seamless that it felt like a jet engine taking off, or a MasterCraft going wide open throttle on a glassy smooth lake. I couldn’t believe it… so I got off the next exit just so I could enjoy the acceleration again. I did this again and again and again… I couldn’t get enough! I was hooked.
