But unfortunately new reports say the global industry downturn has claimed the oil-burning R8 as its latest victim.

German tuners PPI Automotive have unveiled their Audi R8-based PPI Razor GTR at Top Marques Monaco 2009. The 580hp car is a follow up to the PPI R8 Razor, shown off at the Essen Motor Show in 2008.
That maximum horsepower comes from the engine at 7400 rpm, while torque maxes out at a level of 600 Nm, from 6200 rpm. Weight of the PPI Razor GTR is 1580 kg, a full 250 kg lighter than the PPI R8, and 40 kg lighter than the Audi R8 V10. These modifications get the car from standstill to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 332 km/h. All of these changes came from racing, wind tunnel development, road testing, and track testing. The number one priority was a focus on power-to-weight ratio, without diminishing the car’s performance.

Many members may not know who Matt Ammon was and may have never met him. It was Matt\’s enthusiasm for Audi and his strong encouragement of driving instruction that inspires us to hold this event each year. The words of advice he gave to new Audi owners ring especially true in the Northwest. This event is focused on introducing drivers to skills development and driving enjoyment. Driving instruction has been Audi Club Northwest’s credo since its inception more than 14 years ago. Members who have participated in our events know the secret. Your enjoyment behind the wheel is directly affected by your skills to control the vehicle. The more comfortable and confident you are in your abilities to pilot your vehicle, the easier it is to avoid collisions and safely drive your car to its potential.
The Matt Ammon Memorial Driving School (MAMDS) is the perfect starting point for people who are hesitant to try performance driving as well as for those who have been to many schools and want to improve driving skills. Your instructor’s goals will be to improve your driving to allow you to negotiate around an autocross course and track and in the crazy world of commuter traffic or poorly lit back-roads. It is all connected. Matt understood these points, and our club has practiced them.
Matt also strongly believed in the social aspects of the club. Events such as MAMDS allow you to interchange with people that you would have never met otherwise. These are people from all walks of life and ages. Sharing a common experience with people you meet at these events creates lasting bonds that, in the age of social networking, extend friendships well beyond the immediacy of a single event.
